Narrative Essay On Quinceanera

My Quinceanera was three years ago, and it was an experience I will never forget. A Quinceanera is a Hispanic traditional ceremony when a little girl becomes a young lady at the age of fifteen. In the eyes of the church and family my life as I knew it would be different from this special event. I left my childhood behind in one day, I remember the church ceremony, the reception, and my Sunday dinner for my court of honor. At the church is where you are told what is expected of you as a young lady. The Father was speaking directly to me about leaving my childhood behind and becoming a role model for the younger generations. He told me what to expect in womanhood, and depending on my reactions and answers is whether he would grant my Quinceanera and receive communion. I was seated in the middle of the hall, surrounded by family and friends, I was presented with my tiara, heels, and my last doll. I was a princess, a woman who no longer needed to wear flats, and a young woman who needed had to outgrow the dolls. It was overwhelming wrapping my head around the concept of being my own woman, but it was what I wanted. Finally, it was time for the father-daughter dance, when it would be my last dance as my father’s little girl and my first dance as a woman with my court of honor. After the festivities, it was time to relax and reflect on my big day. I became a woman, and now it was time to act like one, I invited my court of honor into my home to thank them and honor them with a dinner. I gave each of them a gift showing my gratitude and appreciation for them sharing this special day with me. I opened my gifts, which were all lovely and greatly appreciated.
