The room is dim, but just bright enough to see my surrounding. The area is cluttered with paper filled with equations on the solar system and articles on the Hero’s Journey. The old computer is in the corner of the room. I am there, standing, ready to turn it on. With the press of a button, the computer is on, and with it I am ready. The monitor blinked back to life, cycled through the setup logos, and, before I know it, up popped the login menu. Logging in begins my adventure. I have been surrounded by technology even before I started school. Despite being immigrants, with limited money and a subsistence wage, my parents invested in that old computer, a Sony computer that ran Windows XP. They hold the opportunity to figure out something that I don’t know. People will pester me about this cute cat video, or this post made by some popular celebrity. I will counter with this awesome video about how the different ways planets form across the solar system, or this article about how their favorite movie follows point for point the Hero’s journey. Sure, I still like to be entertained, but where I truly crave is entertainment that I can learning from, use, think about. Technology has that capacity to improve human life, and I want help that along. I want to make the world a less ignorant place. I want to push the world in a direction that not only wants to learn, but also has the capacity to learn about it. I don’t anticipate getting my exact results but if I could give that spark, that same spark that computer gave me, than the world might feel like a better place.I don’t know all the answers, but that won’t stop me from learning it all.
