Narrative Essay On Cross Country
High school cross country is one of the simplest sports in existence. All you do is run! You run at practice to get faster race times. There is only one event for varsity, the five kilometer race. You warm-up, head up to the starting line, wait for the gun, then race. My first experience with cross country was my freshman year in high school. The year before that I participated in track and ran the 800m and the 1600m events. I found that I preferred long distance events and wanted to continue to run. Before I started high school the next year, I decided I would try something new. I knew I needed to push myself out of my comfort zone. When high school started I signed up for cross country. I was very nervous and honestly I didn’t want to do

The trail continued around the east side of the lake entering a gathering of trees forming an insignificant forest along the lake’s shoreline. From our viewpoint, the trees concealing the trail eventually dispersed on the southeast side of the lake, and the trail blended into the landscape. Using our imagination, we envisioned the route against the rugged terrain sloping into the lake. No point in taking a vote now, we had trekked to the lake and the consensus was to proceed with a lap around the lake.…

Cross country deals with long distance running, but it’s dealt on a grass, gravel, and hills. The workouts one would have to do to prepare for a meet, would transition from 400 mile repeats, long runs that could range around five to ten miles, and hardcore hill workouts. These types of workouts work out the legs and core of a runner for any rugged terrain that they would run on during a race. Cross country also deals with the fact one must compete with a lot of more people during a normal meet. A usual cross country race consist of…

I have been running since I started Modified Track and Field in the seventh grade. Running has been a part of my life ever since then. When I decided to join track I felt as though it was the worst mistake that I could have ever made, simply because i did not like running as a child. After trying it for the first year and not giving up I enjoyed it very much and that is when I stated that I would continue to run track till I graduated high school. Then came ninth grade and not only did I continue to do Outdoor Track but I also joined Indoor Track and it helped me improve with my running for Outdoor Track. I participated in Soccer from sixth grade till ninth grade, because come tenth grade I realized I had a strong passion for running,…

My high school cross country coach has been a very influential person to me. He has mentored me and encouraged me through four years of cross country. Because of his direction I trained myself into one of his fastest runners. I didn’t just get faster, I also learned a very important life lesson. To always try my best and be determined to achieve my goals. In one year I dropped my 5k time from a 19:08 to a 17:58. A result of my dedication. I know I won’t be the fastest runner, but I can be the hardest working…

Why would you go to a Camp for running? That's exactly what i was thinking when the varsity cross country guys tried to convince me to go to a Wisconsin running camp. Personally i thought the idea of a running camp was ridiculous, why would i want to pay someone to so they could “teach” me how to run? According to my teammates though, it was worth it to go and “learn” about running. I had never needed anyone to ever really tell me how to run, it had always come naturally and i was fairly self confident in myself when it came to running. The camp turned out to be a lot different from what i expected it to be.The first day that we all were there, the instructors, which were runners on the Wisconsin cross country team, took us out to a park and gave everyone the option of three groups, the slow group, the middle group, and the fast group. I decided that because i had been conditioning at the start of the summer that the fast group would be easy to keep up with, that was a mistake. That first run at the camp was the hardest 4 mile tempo run i've ever done, afterwards i realized i had over estimated how much i had actually trained compared to everyone…

Participating on the Sutton High School cross country team has been one of the most rewarding yet stressful experiences of my life. For the past five years the Sutton cross country team has been a second home to me and season after season I return thirsting to vanquish a competitive fire. Although I'm ecstatic about competing this year, I was not always this happy about running. Five years ago I decided to try out for a sports team that involved less hand eye coordination (seeing how I have none) and tried out for the cross country team at my school. Almost immediately did I find out that a simple task like running could become much more strenuous not only on my legs and lungs but on the mind. While my body adjusts to the challenges of dirt…

Ever since I was three years old I have been on a four-wheeler, at that time I was riding around with my dad but ever since I can remember I’ve been addicted. Riding four wheelers has always been my go to thing weather it was just around the house, out with friends or family on a trail ride or out at the motocross track racing or practicing. When I was four I got my first four-wheeler and I was hooked, I would ride everyday when I had a second of free time and would usually go ride somewhere on the weekends with my parents. My mom and my dad both love to ride and we all had our own four-wheeler we would ride together. Up till I was about twelve I would…

For the past six years of my life, I ran for the Eureka Springs High School cross country team. After graduation, I was given the opportunity to run for the Golden Suns cross country team at Arkansas Tech University. In a matter of six months, my cross country experiences and habits were changed. Often times, there are similarities between two subjects such as these, but in this case, only the differences are obvious. There are changes in not only the way that I run, but the team I ran with, the coach I ran under, and the person I am when I run. These changes have caused me to see what I can do as a runner and a college student.…

i always heard that cross country happened a dangerous sport, and to me, that was the exciting part about it. As the summer went on, my confidence that I would reach my prime grew undoubtedly stronger every time i would look at at the improvements I did during the summer when getting ready for my first high school cross country season. I finished the summer session of the season and everything went as planned, capturing three amazing races that had me in the top 20 for those meets and I looked good to make regionals that year until one day during practice, all of that would lead downhill. Running after school on a sunny afternoon with the team and getting ready for the city meet, which all of the Brownsville schools would go plus other nearby valley schools, the sun flared its heat in our faces but the wind cooled off our sweat for a refreshing…

I said are you still taking me hunting and he said yeah. He said he would pick me up halfway to his house in a week.
