Narrative Essay: A $ 250 Scholarship
Imagine having the opportunity of getting a $250 scholarship as an eighth grader. Now, imagine actually winning it after all the tribulations and hardships that stood in your way. I won that scholarship, and I could not believe it! After going through so many trials, all the work needed to even qualify for the scholarship, and worrying about my competition and how amazing they all were, I finally achieved what I had been longing for! Miranda was a former band student. Her parents put together a scholarship after she died in a terrible car crash so that she could be remembered in the band. From what I have found out about her, Miranda was a very sweet, kind, and loving person. Your typical band student. She was always looking for ways to help others and ways to just show courtesy. Which is another reason as to why her parents put this fundraiser together. They knew that kids struggle with money problems in the family, and need an extra push to keep going. So hearing about this scholarship, I was thrilled. My parents have a way of their own where I have to come up with all the …show more content…
We were told that one boy and one girl will be chosen by Miranda's parents. All that was required of all of the candidates was to write an essay, however long, on what band meant to them and how it has affected their lives. I instantly knew what I was going to say in my essay, how long, etc, etc, because band was honestly my life. Music is my world, and I would definitely not be who I am today without it. We had two days to write our essay, and let me tell you, I revised that essay a million times. I needed it to be perfect. Not only was I after the scholarship, but I also wanted anyone that read my essay to know that music has been the biggest influence in my life, over anything else. I finally finished the essay, turned it in, and waited another two weeks eagerly awaiting the time when the winners would be

I feel honored to achieve the National Junior Honor Society award, ever since I received the letter informing me about how I earned the award I was very excited. This award means a lot to me and I have set high goals all school year ever since hearing about it. Every day I come to school and set high goals for myself whether it’s to earn all A’s, learn something new, or get an award. I feel education is very important and so far all this school year I only have been absent once and I’ve never been late. However, I don’t think all the credit should go to me, if it weren't for my parents I wouldn’t have gotten myself to where I am today. Their belief in me to achieve greatness inspires me. Throughout my life, they also helped answer all my questions, and still do. All though it’s not just my parents who deserve the credit the amazing teachers who have taught me throughout my entire life deserve some credit too, without their amazing teaching skills I wouldn’t be earning this award today.…

My last year of band, my junior year, we got accepted into going to all-state band. I’d never done this before, so it was a whole new experience. We had been working on a bookmark piece for the entire year now, ready to perform it for competition. It was titled “Bookmarks from Japan”, and is still one of my favorite pieces I’ve heard to date. We preformed in front of four judges, and then listened to other bands. Once the awards rolled around, surprise filled the room. Our band had taken second place overall. In the ENTIRE state! I’ve never felt more recognition for hard work than I have in my life.…

These exams helped me obtain half a scholarship with the chess program. Furthermore, being good with computers, especially in computer programming, gave me an opportunity to receive the other half a scholarship to obtain a full scholarship to stay here in the United States and attend…
