Our world today is struggling more than ever, the challenges we face today keep growing more each day making it difficult for our world to become more balanced or “peaceful.” The challenges we face today are many and impact everyone in one way or another. Out of all the challenges we face today, the environment, economy, and oil and gas are the three aspects that affect the world the most. These three challenges are challenges that with the right people and proper actions could easily be fixed with time and determination. Today there are 195 countries in the world and as countries who share Earth and everything that Earth has to offer; we need to work together to find solutions to the challenges that affect the world today. The environment is one of the most urgent global problems we face today. One problem affecting the environment is the Earth’s temperature. The earth is warming up more and more every day and scientists have come to conclude to be human-induced. Due to the Earth warming up, the climate temperature is changing drastically. In some areas in the country the temperature rises to high levels affecting species and habitats all around the world. In other areas, the temperature drops to extreme levels that also affect the habitat and species. For example, in Antarctica the drop in temperature is causing the ice to melt resulting in the loss of habitat for the species in the Artic. In other areas, the rise in temperature is causing droughts around the world. One prime example is the drought affecting California today. This is causing wildfires, limited water resources and limited growth of crops which in turn affect the price of our produce. The economy is the second global challenge we face today. The global financial system is more interconnected today than ever resulting in countries depending on each other for success. Due to countries depending on each other the risk of one country’s economy falling can spread quickly and greatly affect every other countries economy. And although each country may not be affected equally, the reality is that their economy will be impacted greatly. In the U.S. the total amount of debt is growing faster every single day. This debt is due to the amount of social and world problems the U.S. is trying to fix. The reality is that the U.S. is in too much debt to be able to fix all the problems it faces. However, this will be a hard thing to do because it is the government that needs to fix its issues first and come to an agreement on how to fix our declining economy. As of now the U.S. continues to borrow money from other countries making us depend on other countries more and increasing our world debt as well. Without a solution the U.S. could lose a lot of connections and put ourselves in a situation that as a country we wouldn’t want to be in. A third global challenge we face today is one that has lead us and other countries into unnecessary world wars. Oil and gas are a base for many products we use today. Do to oil and gas growing in demand for products, oil and gas has become far too expensive. The rising cost of oil and gas has resulted in countries fighting over it. These wars over oil and gas are wars that not only are unnecessary but are truly hurting us both economically and environmentally. A lot of money is being used in preparing and protecting our men and women to fight in other countries risking their lives for something that I view to be pointless. Our environment is also suffering from these wars, habitats are being destroyed and our air is being polluted by all the gunfire and explosions. With these ongoing wars our economy and environment is going to keep suffering. These three global issues are only three of many other challenges the world is facing today. And it is up to us and government officials from every country to find solutions to these issues no matter how challenging they can be. These issues can be solved with time and determination from the people and government officials. The first step is to fully recognize the issues we face and come together to find solutions to them. Government officials need to set their differences aside by put away their political views and communicate effectively with each other. Until this is done we will be able to communicate with other government officials from other countries and find the right solutions to these global issues. Wars will be terminated and we will be able to live in a more peaceful world. If this is not achieved our global issues will just keep growing and lead us to an agitated world.

One would think that purchasing your first home would be a very fascinating experience; after all it is one of the most major purchases of your entire life. I quickly learned the process of purchasing your first home can be very frustrating and stressful. However, if you survive the home buying process the reward is priceless once you move into your “American Dream.”…

Most people rely on the security and care of others to provide for their loved ones when they put them in a nursing home. What they don’t realize is how much neglect goes on to the people they care most about. Residents are at risk of being abused by their caretakers but they are also at risk of being restrained, which may lead to a form of abuse. At Southwestern Nursing Home I have witnessed forms of neglect and abuse. Nursing homes are meant to be a place for security for the elderly to be cared for in their golden years, and it has become an unpleasant experience for senior citizens being subjected to acts of abuse and neglect.…

These faster rising temperatures of the earth have caused some very severe effects on the climate change and now the climate change is being observed around the world by not just scientist but by all of us. All of the sea levels are rising at a fast pace because of how fast the ice glaciers are melting, the arctic sea ice is melting, permafrost and expansion of warmer seawater, that is also causing serious threats for all sea creatures and which also includes the death of the world’s coral reefs. The warmer climate change can also be held responsible for the extreme droughts that have been happening that causes a higher evaporation rate which then leads to a heavier rainfall in some areas of the world and causes flooding in others as well as it effecting the world’s crops because it causes withering and decline in our food production which then means a food shortage for many if not all communities.…

I am an average 16 year who just can’t wait to grow up and face the real world and not have to worry about any rules or restrictions. On January 12th, 1996, my parents named me Asmaa, so I have to stick with that name for the rest of my life. Personally, I like the name because it’s the name of a very great person; more of a hero in Islam. Names in my family go with a pattern; but this only goes for girls. The pattern is the double ‘A’ at the end of the name. Shaymaa is the leader of the tribe yet she doesn’t control any of us. Next in line are me and my twin sister Alyaa. We are the decision makers in the household, everyone takes our opinion before doing anything or taking any steps .I would like to mention that I am the older twin; but that doesn’t really help me in anyway because she is treated as the ‘wiser one’. I am known as the smiley easy going twin and Alyaa is known as the serious harsher twin. There are 5 years between Omar and me, which makes me the mature older sister that he could come to for advice. Esraa is the little seven year old diva of the house. She likes to imitate models and celebrities and act like she rules the planet. The sixth child is five year old Tarek who just entered grade one this September. He believes that the world can’t survive without superheroes. Last but certainly not least is my life and my smile, the little flower of the house; Alaa. She is a year and 3 months old. In my mind; she completes the package very well. We kids call ourselves The Power of Seven. We’re 5 girls against 2 guys. Fortunately for us girls, we gang up against the guys and we always get what we want. The girls rule the house because they know how to fight for what they want, they know how to put up a good argument, and plus they’re the majority. Speaking of majority, I am two years away from being an official adult and getting the right to vote; a year and 4 months and day to be exact. I really want…

People underestimate the competitiveness and risks that go along with cheerleading. Some also do not consider it a sport, which is an unfortunate opinion. I took a tremendous risk when I decided to join the cheerleading team in seventh grade, although I had neither prior experience in cheerleading nor any sport for that matter. Being lanky and uncoordinated for most of my elementary years caused me to avoid any type of sports for the fear of embarrassment and failure. However, cheerleading appealed to me, because I admired the girls' and guys' bravery when it came to the challenging skills and routines.…

I raised my right army and swore, “I, state name, do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will obey the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the uniform code of military justice. So help me God.” My body tensed as they took my fingerprints to finalize my enlistment with the U.S Army. I was to ship in a couple days that would change my life forever. Little did I know it was going to be a very rigorous six months full of challenges I’d never thought I would have to face. It was going to be a summer full of sweat, tears, determination and personal courage.…

On August 15, 2007, my older brother, Lucas, suggested we go to the corncrib. I agreed and we walked across the farm to flip the lock and open the large white doors. I followed him inside, and hence there being no windows on the lower level, it took my eyes awhile to adjust to the darkness. I heard Luke’s voice somewhere to my left, and glanced over my shoulder to vaguely see him climbing up a ladder. Having never been inside the corncrib before, I blindly followed him. My eyes stung as they adjusted to the bright sunlight and the dusty air in the top level. After about fifteen minutes, Luke told me that he was going to go back inside the house. He began climbing down the ladder, so I shadowed him.…
