Narrative Essay
Moving away from home is a life changing experience for anyone. You have to deal with leaving the people you love and have known your entire life. When you leave home you’re starting a whole new life due to living somewhere totally new for the first time. This can be a great experience for anyone because you’re living somewhere where you know no one and every day you see new faces. Leaving home on your own is a whole new chapter in life. The day I left home was August 20, 2011 and I was the most ecstatic person on earth. I was thinking about all the new things I’m going to be able to do and all the new people I’m going to meet. Home was New Jersey for me and as much as I loved it I’ve always loved Florida more. Every summer since I was a kid I would always come to Florida and spend the entire summer with my aunt and uncle. There was never once a summer that I didn’t come and every summer I came I would always wish that I could stay and didn’t have to go back home to NJ. So finally when I finished high school my wish came true and I got to move to Florida. When I moved to Florida I was moving on my own with my two dogs. I had a two door sports car and I remembered it was crammed all over the place with my stuff. The day it was finally time for me to go my mother was so sad and crying because she didn’t want me to go and was trying to convince me to stay. Once I left my mother’s house I was off to pick up my favorite cousin and begin the long journey to Florida. It was my first time driving to Florida so it was awesome to see all the interesting sights in every state we went through. On the drive down we took lots of pictures of random things, my two dogs behaved way better than I thought they would, and I got a beautiful $500 dollar speeding ticket in Georgia. Finally, when we arrived in Florida I was so excited to get to my new apartment that I couldn’t stop thinking about the entire trip down to Florida. My dogs were running around so I got the

The best trip I have ever went on was when my family and I went to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. My aunt was getting married and my mom’s side of the family was invited to come. We got to go on this vacation last February. We left very early one morning and we went to the airport. It was very cold and the air was very dry. We got to the airport in Sioux Falls and we went through security and waited to get on the plane. Once we finally got on the plane I was very excited to get there. We had a connection in Minneapolis and we had a direct flight from Minneapolis all the way to Punta Cana. Once we finally got to Punta Cana, we were getting off the plane and I could feel the humid, warm air. We had to wait in a very long line to go through customs. After that, we got on a taxi that took us to our resort. The roads in the Dominican Republic are not much different from the roads in the U.S. They still had stop lights, billboards, and the same traffic rules. One big difference we saw on the way to the…

In the past, our family normally makes plans to go on a trip. So this year we decided to travel to Washington D.C. with my grandparents. My parents told us at around Christmas time and said that we were supposed to leave during spring break. I couldn’t wait! We were going all the way down to Washington D.C.! There were a couple of requirements though. For example, we had to keep the whole house spotless without anything on the floors, and we had to stay out of trouble. It was a little struggling for a while, but it was soon over.…

Thinking back on it now, Alaska was an important part of my life, having lived there for the majority of the time I’ve been alive. The small town of Eagle River was a great place to live, even if it gets very cold in the winter. Since I’ve lived there for so long, I learned how to make my way around from Point A to Point B without much hassle and figured out how easily friends can come if you try. Where I lived in a neighborhood that wasn’t too far away from a safeway, so I could walk there and do some errands for my folks, and maybe do some shopping for myself as well. There was a park just across the way, which is where I spent most of my days if I wasn’t being a lazy nerd at my computer. If the summer wasn’t rainy, it…

I moved to Alabama from Texas at the beginning of my 6th grade year. The day before leaving, my best friend since kindergarten came over and stayed the night with me, dreading falling asleep and waking up to a nightmare of having to say goodbye. The morning came and so did the tears, I had packed up my entire life, said goodbye to all my family, friends, my house, and even my dad. How was I, an insecure, and VERY shy little girl supposed to just leave everything I knew and loved and start all the way over when my life was just getting started? It was a long 12 hour drive from Dallas, Texas, to little town Guntersville, Alabama and it gave me a long time to pity myself, hate my mom for moving me, get over the hate and be excited, and then be upset all over again. Alabama. Why Alabama? We had a choice, Alabama or Florida, and we chose here??? Me being a stubborn, bratty, over dramatic pre-teen, I just couldn’t wrap my head around it. I thought the world was ending.…

Moving to northern Wisconsin as a young girl was a scary and confusing time. Having been born in Chicago, all I knew was a big city, the crowds of people, the nonstop traffic and all the noises. My home, it was the only place I knew. How could my parents make a decision like this? How could they make me move to a place I had only visited once before -- but barely remembered? The sadness I felt was so overwhelming during that transition that I told myself that if I ever had a family, I would never make them move. As an adult, many years later, I look back and almost chuckle. My family and I have moved many times, for work or family and even adventure. Now as an adult, I push my children to find adventure in every move…

I was just ten when my parents told me that my dad got a new job and that we had to move from New York to Georgia. At that moment millions of thoughts rushed into my mind. I didn't want to move. I had a lot of friends and family here, I was on a little league team, everything is great here, and I didn't like the idea of leaving that all behind. I didn't even know where Georgia was. But I knew I had no choice, so that last day of school I said my goodbyes to my friends and teachers with sadness in my heart, knowing I wouldn't see them again next year. I got home, packed everything, and closed the door of the empty house. We drove thirteen hours to our new home. During those thirteen hours of sleeping and staring out the window, a mix of sadness…
