Narrative Essay One of my most frightening experiences happened when I was about thirteen years old. This happened while I was visiting with my grandma on the north side. The area where the incident happened was commonly known as the “Hood” where bad things happened to good people and worse things happen to bad people. My uncles and cousins were outside playing around and just having fun. Out of nowhere there was a continuous barrage of gun fire that seemed as if it wouldn’t stop. The target of the gun fire was my grandma’s next door neighbor. The neighbor was chased to his house by two men and shot a number of times even while he was running. When the gun fire started we made a hasty retreat to the house where we barricaded ourselves inside while staying away from the windows. After it was all over we could hear the sound of the police sirens coming in the distance. It was at this time we decided it would be safe to venture outside. When we got outside, a crowd had already started gathering and we could see the neighbor lying partway on the sidewalk and the grass in front of his house. He was still alive when we got to him to offer whatever help we could, however, it was too late. We saw him gasped his last breath and we later learned that he was shot over fifty times. The police later found over one hundred shell castings on the street leading up to his body, suggesting he was shot with assault weapons.
This was the first time that I had seen someone dying. To say that I was scared would be the understatement of the century. After this incident I was afraid to venture outside with others, much less by myself. My parents had to accompany me whenever I wanted to go outside and I was always sticking very close to my father. I guess this was my belief in the invulnerability of my father. This happens when one is young. This incident caused me to have recurrent nightmares for about six months. I had a very supportive family and they basically protected me

Most people rely on the security and care of others to provide for their loved ones when they put them in a nursing home. What they don’t realize is how much neglect goes on to the people they care most about. Residents are at risk of being abused by their caretakers but they are also at risk of being restrained, which may lead to a form of abuse. At Southwestern Nursing Home I have witnessed forms of neglect and abuse. Nursing homes are meant to be a place for security for the elderly to be cared for in their golden years, and it has become an unpleasant experience for senior citizens being subjected to acts of abuse and neglect.…

The first time in my life that I ever experienced true anger and fear was in the sixth grade. A little before Thanksgiving Break, I was diagnosed with malignant melanoma, a type of skin cancer, in my lower back. I had a mole there that was removed earlier that year, and the test results on it had come back positive. I did not find out until later, but when my mom sat me down across from her to talk, I knew something was wrong. It was then that she told me what was going on, and I broke down in tears. I had never experienced fear such as I did then.…

It was a nice sunny October day. I had no idea what would happen that day. I was watching the front doors of the Parliament Building with my fellow guard. We were making sure that people that could do bad things couldn’t get inside. I failed badly. I heard a loud gunshot and I suddenly had a slight headache and then was out forever.…

What if everything you knew and were used to, such as friends, family and way of life, suddenly changed? This happened to me when my family moved to Puerto Rico for the first time. All the things I was used to in my hometown of Boston, Massachusetts, all the people I knew suddenly changed overnight. At first I didn’t think it was going to be that different. But I soon found out that there were so many differences, big and small.…

I actually went a few years without experiencing a life-or-death event, surprisingly. It wasn’t until I was 10 that I faced another life-threatening situation, and in this instance, I wasn’t the only person being harmed. During a routine drive from my house to my grandmother’s house, a drunk driver crashed into us. We were going about 65 miles an hour, as the road we were on was similar to an interstate. The wreck put all of us in the hospital, and for the first hour or so, I thought one of us was not going to survive. Luckily, we all pulled through and recovered over the next few…

Hearing my mom’s lungs come out of her mouth I started to panic and panic. This red circle hook was not going to come out of my eye that easily. All I remember was sitting on a couch with a towel over my eye. All I heard was my mom panicking on the phone with my dad because he was offshore that day with my brother. The options were limited with no car, either an ambulance or wait for my dad to come back with the keys to the car. Honestly I had no clue what to even do I was scared for my life at that moment in time. With my mom panicking and me not knowing what to…

The worst experience in my life that was personally difficult for me to deal with was a little more brutal and gory than other people’s experiences. I have a feeling that I will never, ever forget the things I saw this day or the things I was feeling. This is something that I still struggle with today because I still have nightmares reliving this day, and seeing everything I saw over and over again.…

I’m sure the memory that I have of this devastating event is not 100% accurate for a number of reasons. One being, the fact that it happened so long ago my memory could’ve been tarnished by hearing different stories from different individuals who also witnessed this dreadful event. Another reason being, the fact that I’ve tried so hard to forget this incident but I’m sure I never will. The last reason being, it was dark and everything happened so fast with a lot of things going on at once. There were so many different emotions being displayed at that time and I was just too young to understand.…

My fear of death rooted from one event, this one event changed my outlook on life and it instilled fear into day-to-day moments. I had more fear than a normal 11 year old should have in their life. My fear of death all started in the month of July, it was 5 weeks after my last day of fifth grade and a few days after my birthday. I remember the day very vividly (which is odd because I don’t remember much of grade school.) I remember my mom walking into my room, I remember her face, I remember her tone. She looked sick but not like sinus sick she was pale and had dried tears. I knew something was wrong.…

The scariest thing that has ever happened to me was when me and my brother got into a wreck in his truck. The reason it was the scariest thing that has ever happened to me was because my brother was pinned to the truck seat and I didn’t know if he was going to be able to get out of the truck. I thought that I was going to lose my brother when that happened and it really scared me thinking I wouldn’t have him in my life anymore. He is my brother my dad and my friend he has always been there for me even when my own dad wasn’t there and I couldn’t stand losing him. I love my brother and it wouldn’t be the same without him around and it was one of the worst experiences in my life and I felt so horrible after it happened to him.…
