One would think that purchasing your first home would be a very fascinating experience; after all it is one of the most major purchases of your entire life. In America, home ownership ties in with the American Dream and the spirit of working hard to one day earn through hard work a home with a white picket fence. My husband and I felt that it was time for us to reward ourselves for all the hard work we have been putting in over the years by purchasing our first home, which was well overdue. I quickly learned the process of purchasing your first home can be very frustrating and stressful. However, if you survive the home buying process the reward is priceless once you move into your “American Dream.”…

Any type of organisms need specific things in order to survive, for example, plants needs water, sunlight, and nutrients; animals needs water, food, oxygen, etc. And for us, human beings, we need oxygen, water and food to survive, but to maintain a healthy life, we would also need a friend(s). A person can live without a friend, but they might end up having mental illness and such. But it is actually not as easy as you think to find a real friend that will be your friend forever. For instance, some people might have a large group of friends during their freshman year in high school, yet when they get to their senior year they might end up having only one friend whom they can still tell their secret to or share their feelings to without…

She told me that her parents had arranged her marriage. She looked sad. I felt sad for her and perplexed that at 12 her future love was arranged. It lacked passion, magic, and love. We never discussed love again. We continued to work hard and be comrades of diversity in Mrs. White’s sixth grade class. She was my “bestie” and I her “bosom buddy” until my family moved, and we lost touch.…

Most people rely on the security and care of others to provide for their loved ones when they put them in a nursing home. What they don’t realize is how much neglect goes on to the people they care most about. Residents are at risk of being abused by their caretakers but they are also at risk of being restrained, which may lead to a form of abuse. At Southwestern Nursing Home I have witnessed forms of neglect and abuse. Nursing homes are meant to be a place for security for the elderly to be cared for in their golden years, and it has become an unpleasant experience for senior citizens being subjected to acts of abuse and neglect.…

Growing up I did not have that many friends. There were a few that I talked to, but only a handful that I truly felt close to. I did, however, meet who was and still is one of my closest friends. We knew each other through first grade, and we remained close until third grade; that was the year he had to move away. I remember him leaving hitting me hard, even though I was young I was still crushed at the harsh disappearance of my friend. It wasn't until seventh grade that we reconnected. He had moved back to the Southeast Polk school district, and we happened to have the same science class. After that, we started hanging out again, and he had told me about his time away. We lived very different lives, and when he told me about…

It was about to be a new year so my family decided to invite our neighbors over to our house for a new year's eve party. The night of the party arose and the neighbors were starting to enter through the black door covered in glass welcoming us into the neighborhood. As I was meeting my new neighbors, I met a boy that lived straight across the street from me in the one story, tan stucco house with the blue shutters. The boy’s name was Shawn. Shawn had dark brown hair with tan, olive skin. His eyes were deep brown, that I found myself mesmerized by, falling into them as I found myself falling for him. There was not an awkward moment at all that between us that night, we talked for hours as we watched the orange and pink sun rise. The following day we hung out all day and from them I had made my first friend on the northshore. Shawn had sarcastic, upbeat attitude just like me. It was like Shawn and I were the same person. We got along perfectly, however, sometimes we had our moments, but who didn’t? Shawn taught me how to have fun without doing the bad things I would have been doing living in New Orleans. With Shawn as my best friend we were always having fun and staying out of trouble. Six months into our friendship Shawn told me he had stronger feelings for me other than just friends. During that summer, Shawn asked me to be his girlfriend. I have never had a boyfriend before so Shawn would be the first one.…
