I still remember my first vacation when I live in Kuala Lumpur. It was on the warmth of a summer day in July, 2014. After finishing the spring semester at university, my cousins and I had two week to rest, relax and go somewhere. A beach trip in the summer was always a good idea for us who lived far away from the sea. Arip, my cousins and I made a plan to go to Pulau Tioman in Terrengganu on the Fourth of July. The trip was such an unforgettable vacation for me with many different emotions such as happiness because of saving a person, fear before the dead and interest in the beauty of nature. Sometimes, when I recall, everything seemed to have just happened yesterday.

We were very excited about this trip because this was the first chance for us to go out of Kuala Lumpur. We prepared and packed up everything about a a weeks before the day of departure. At 8.a.m. on July 4th, we got ready to jump on the car and drive straight to terrengganu. Along the street, we stopped twice for breakfast and lunch and we took two more hours because we went to the wrong ways, as well. Therefore, we were at pulau tioman in the evening. While I was checking in two rooms at the hotel, my cousins were going to the beach to find a place to go fishing. After I carried our bags in our rooms, I called a taxi and came to them.

Night fell down completely. This meant I missed the beautiful scene of the setting sun on the beach. The surface of ocean was calm except there were some waves running up and splashing against the shore. The cool wind covered my body when I walked on a bridge where my cousins were fishing. No one stirred. No one spoke. My cousins thoroughly concentrated and stared at the shade underneath the bridge where our fishing robs were dropped. They still did not recognize me till I made some noise by opening a cooler to see their result. The cooler was entirely empty. It was not surprise to me because I definitely knew how well they could fish. Leaving them behind, I went

We see animals every day. They are our pets, companions, and, to some, family. They are also our dinner, new jacket or bag, and the pain behind our household products. So when does it qualify as cruel, or even inhumane? What is animal cruelty? According to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) “Intentional cruelty, or abuse, is knowingly depriving an animal of food, water, socialization, or veterinary care. Maliciously torturing, maiming, or killing an animal.” Three major examples of animal cruelty today are found in the food industry, shelters, and testing facilities.…

Wandering aimlessly in the pitch black along the shoreline, my mother and I depended on flashlights and the brightly lit stars since they were our only source of light. The boisterous chirping of the birds was unheard of at this time along with the sight of the playful squirrels. Nature was tranquil. Humming of the ice-cold ocean waves and our feet shuffling as we stepped on top of the soft, damp sand were the only sources of sound. The gentle breeze split through my hair and sent chills throughout my entire body. Nothing but darkness laid ahead of us but the blackness now attracted me, pulling me further into the night.…

When Hope Gets Lost Imagine constantly being asked “Why can’t you just pull yourself together?” Being told “You have nothing to be depressed about, you have so much going for you!”, “But you don’t SEEM depressed, you were just laughing an hour ago!” For those struggling with many of life’s abundant obstacles, suicide seems like the ideal compromise for the self-destruction and agony to end. I believe that suicide is not the answer because I’ve overcome it myself. I’ve had to learn in the most difficult of ways that suicide is exceedingly traumatic for the friends and family members. 90 percent of people who have taken their own life have a diagnosable mental disorder. There are countless alternatives for people who struggle with these disorders, long before suicide is even being contemplated.…

“I’ve been drinking since I was twelve, but I don’t think I was exactly twelve. Maybe older, maybe younger. I’m a little tipsy now but that’s not what you want to hear. I was once told I drank like an eel, I’m not sure what that meant, but again that’s not what you want to hear. You want me to sit here and tell you the exact traumatic moment when I began drinking; It was the first time I ever had that nightmare. The next day I asked my dad why drank, he said ‘I drink to forget’. He never told me what he was trying to forget. I thought ‘I drinking makes you forget, maybe I’ll forget the dream.’ So I drank a couple of beers then went to sleep. The dream was worse than before, but that was the cycle every night for the past thirty-five years.”…

The Soft Impact of Baby Sea Turtles I stood on the slightly warm grainy, yet soft sand as I faced the calm crashing of the loose small waves. The mysterious light that radiated off the moon, showed me the promise which the night holds. The clouds escaped my sight for just this one night to show me the beauty of the twinkling ball of fire in the midnight colored sky. Silence mixed with the soft roll of the ocean permeated the area around me.The breeze danced through my hair, and cupped my face, while it filled my nose with the strong stench of salt air. The salt air was strong enough that I could taste the heavy mass in my mouth.…

This narrative is about the story of my friend who watched her parents separate because of her father’s another woman. Last April, I went abroad in order to see the Beyoncé new concert in Paris; what I didn´t know is that I was about to experience the most stressful journey in my whole life. When the tickets came out on sale, five minutes where enough for the on-line page to sell them out completely worldwide, so I thought I wasn’t going to be able to see the show. Desperately I entered to a ticket re-selling site on the web and I bought two tickets for a very exorbitant price (four times the value of the official page price). Two months passed and I didn´t get the tickets that the web page was supposed to mail me. I spent at least a week trying to call the manager of the page but it was quite difficult, but a week before the date I planned to travel, they told me that they were going to deliver the tickets at the entrance of the concert. A week after that we went on a plane to Madrid and the stopover was so long that we had to spend the night over at the airport; I remember I slept on the ground because I was terribly exhausted. The next day, as soon as we got to Paris we went to the stadium where the concert was on, the next day. We went to the stadium´s ticket-office and told them our little inconvenient and the lady told us that the specific web page we used for buying the tickets was a scam, and that she wasn´t sure that they will appear the next day to deliver the tickets. The next day, we went to the stadium at 5 o´clock in the morning to make the line for the standing position at the concert, 200 people where there a week before us so they could be up front, we were totally resigned. But then somebody told us that if we had to pick up tickets we had a different entrance, so we made a new line at another gate in which we were first. Five hours late we found out that the concert organizers had a strike a few days before and there were a lot of tickets that weren´t delivered so they told us that in order to make up for that, we were going to enter before…

I’m about to tell you an amazing story. . . . When I was a little girl, about six years old, I was playing on a play structure. I fell off the bars onto the ground and my tooth fell out! It was the happiest—then again, saddest—time ever. I was laughing because I was waiting and waiting for it to come out, but I was crying because it hurt.…

Top 5 reasons I am choosing Law Enforcement as my career * #5 Adrenaline Rush: As a law enforcement officer you’ll probably saves someone’s life every day you come to work. An officer may have to make a life or death discussion in a split second. They could also save someone from potential harm when they issue traffic tickets or responding to domestic violence calls. This would be an extreme rush for me since officers are in a high risk job at all times. I understand the risk and wiliness to put myself out there for others and having only a spilt second to react. This is very similar to my position as quarterback on the football field, which I have enjoyed since I younger, and have handled it well. In this position you are a leader and a role model for community. Which I believe will transition over to me becoming an officer.…

Affirmative Action The United States has a history of discrimination and that has greatly influenced many parts of our country. Even after the Civil War racial inequality was still a way especially in the confederate South for a hundred years. Discrimination greatly affected minorities in all aspects of their life. A minority was any person who was not a white male. It mainly affected their education and job opportunities and say they had in the government. However in 1964, the United States passed civil rights laws. It was called the Civil Rights Act. The act banned discrimination based on a person's color, sex, national origin, and race. It mainly protected the rights of African Americans and other minorities. The Civil Rights Act said minorities have the right to vote, use hotels, restaurants, movies, parks, and any other public place. The law also said that public schools had to be desegregated. Also funds from programs the promoted segregation were taken away. The act also included the prohibition of job discrimination and the creation of the Equal Employment Opportunities Commission. The equal employments opportunities commission was a great step in ending discrimination. What it did were ban employers from discriminating against someone for any reason. Even though the Civil Rights Act was put into place a problem still remained. This problem was minorities lacked skill and proper education to do jobs which would put them on the same playing field as whites. So President Kennedy came up with Affirmative Action.…
