I have consistently demonstrated high academic achievement during my school career. For three years in a row my website was one of the top three websites at the Pinellas County National History Day fair and even moved on to the State competition in the last of the three years. National History Day (NHD) is a rigorous competition that requires students to select a topic based on a theme, create an annotated bibliography that requires students to explain what each source contains, and make a website/paper/documentary/exhibit/play based on their theme. I was able to win with my websites three years in a row and was able to advance to the NHD State competition. My success in NHD was so great that my 8th grade history teacher asked my to come to judge NHD competition at the school level. I felt ecstatic to receive such a wonderful opportunity. It was an amazing experience to go and judge the school level websites and I hope to do many more times.…
When I was a kid, I was living in West Roxbury small town near Boston, Massachusetts. I had many events happen in life, some good and some not so good but in the end it was a learning experience and part of my history. At the age of 7, I was sent to another country to live with my grandmother in South America. I had to leave my family due to medical reasons that my mother was going through. Many things were hard, but taking that experience has made me realize that good things can come out of what was then a bad experience in the beginning. Trying to adapt to a new school, new friends, new environment, new family in the sense that I didn’t have my parents with me, wasn’t what I was used to but what did I know about that I was only 7 years old although if my memory serves me well, it was somewhat hard but not impossible to adapt to. Change is not an easy thing to adapt to especially if life has been a routine; it’s a cycle of experiences that with every step we go in life.…
Learning something can be a scary experience. I Anyel Santiago, sale associate and a cashier in Old Navy, Dolphin Mall since April 19, 2013 I realize people can't manage their moods. The customers can be rude sometimes throwing the items on the cashier, some cut off other customers in line, some are so friendly that they make a half hour conversation with you, and some are just weird. But besides that, they'ress the people that live in the same world as I do. So, I can't change how they feel on a certain day. Heck, even sometimes I act in an unpleasant or pleasant way; when the situtation is opposite and am standing on the other side of the cashier. But since we're human beings and we encounter emotions; I know that everyone has their moments let it be good or bad.…
Having this fear of heights it causes his legs to shake his head to hurt and his knees to tremble. Body breaking out in a cold sweat he starts to think why is he up there. He starts jabbering to anyone who is nearby. As thoughts of certain death run through his mind, the world appears a precious, treasured place. He imagines his own funeral, then shrink back at the implications of where his thoughts are taking him. His stomach feels strange, and his palms are clammy. He is terrified of heights because the last time he was up this high he fell from a gun shot wound in Iraq. Of course, it’s not really a fear of being in a high place. Rather, it is the view of a long way to fall again, a firm wall between him and the edge. His sense of security is screamingly absent. There are no guardrails, flimsy though he pictures them, or other safety walls that he is used to. He can rely only on his own surefootedness—or lack thereof. He steps over to the edge of darkness that is to be most likely him facing his fear of the never-ending fall. Tied and rigged up to the tower using a middle of the rope double bowline he is ready to over come his fear of heights and falling 120ft. Thinking to himself rappel master school is not fun at all. As he turns to lower himself 90 degrees, feet on the tower, hands on the rope, right hand on the break side of the rope and left hand on the guide rope, he eases his break hand down to a forty-five degree angle looking over his right shoulder down to the ground. “Man that’s a long way down he says to himself” sweat beads forming on his brow. He can’t believe he is doing this to himself. As he locks the break hand in the small of his back his gazes at the ground still thinking to himself he is crazy for this. In a distance he can hear a voice calling to him to snap out of it, but he can’t tell where it’s coming from till he focuses on the reality of life that it’s coming from the instructor telling him to “look at him”. He turns his head…
Being born in a very small and boring city, Angel Quiles didn’t think it was really all that fun. There were times that he just stayed home all day doing nothing but watch television, play video games, or practice his instruments. It wasn’t until he was eleven, when he had to move to Florida so that he could be closer to his father. He was raised to be a Catholic, but all of that changed when his Father took him to his Pentecostal church one Sunday morning. He couldn’t help but notice so many people crying, shaking, and running around the whole church like it was a playground. Also, while the service was happening, there were so many people swaying their hands from side to side, shouting out “Glory to God” and “My soul worships you Jesus.” He wasn’t used to that. He thought to himself “these people are crazy,” because in Catholic churches they recite verses from the bible, sing quietly, and sit down the whole entire service. There were a lot of times when he thought to himself “this isn’t a church, because these people are acting like it’s a carnival or an amusement park.”…
My story is about a family that is been destroyed because of the selfish actions of the adults. This narrative is about the story of my friend who watched her parents separate because of her father’s another woman. She tells us that at first her parents are like the others, happy and full of love but as time passes it seems to her that her parents are falling out of love because unlike before, she said her parents always sort their misunderstandings, but as the times goes by she started to notice that her parents hardly talk to each other after their fight. She also tells us that she became aware that every time her father comes home late, her mother will start to confront him and they will start to fight. Because unlike before her father in not that secretive about the messages in her phone but there was a time that her mother caught her father calling another woman “hon” and sometimes saying I love you on the phone, and that is why her mother becomes paranoid and started to confront her father whenever he comes home late. But she cannot blame her mother for doing such thing because she knows that her mother loves her father so much. But as they say patience has a limitation, her mother cannot stand the pain that her husband causes her and started to let go.…
The happiest memory of mine that I have is of when I went to Montreal, Canada, to visit my family on my dad’s side. It was around the first week of August of 2007, and was my first trip to Canada. Along with going to Montreal, Canada, we also went to Quebec City, Canada, the only city in North America that has stone walls bordering it.…
Education has been regarded as a means toward economic stability and progress. The increases productivity of the workforce is due mainly to the increase in the education and training of the people. The BRP Hydrographer Presbitero, chartered for our expedition, is shown here at dock in the Port of Manila. (BRP is the acronym for Barko ng Republika ng Pilipinas, which identifies it as a ship of the Republic of the Philippines.) The ship is used for various types of marine research, but she is specifically charged with producing data that can be used to create navigational charts and topographic maps. I still remember my first vacation when I live in Kuala Lumpur. It was on the warmth of a summer day in July, 2014. After finishing the spring semester at university, my cousins and I had two week to rest, relax and go somewhere. A beach trip in the summer was always a good idea for us who lived far away from the sea. Arip, my cousins and I made a plan to go to Pulau Tioman in Terrengganu on the Fourth of July. The trip was such an unforgettable vacation for me with many different emotions such as happiness because of saving a person, fear before the dead and interest in the beauty of nature. Sometimes, when I recall, everything seemed to have just happened yesterday.…
