Narcissistic Personality Disorder Research Paper

Narcissistic personality disorder (NPD) is a mental disorder which a person has an unrealistic sense of superiority. Similarly, to many other mental illness, Narcissistic Personality Disorder is predominately controlled by emotional behavior, which mirrors paranoid, borderline, and antisocial personality disorders. Some of the most prevalent symptoms are inflated ego, lack of empathy and a deep need of admiration of others. People with NPD are sensitive to criticism and react with extreme rage or degrade the other person to make themselves feel superior. Narcissist do not seek help because they do not believe that they have a problem. There is currently no treatment for NPD, however, in the 1800’s therapist thought so. (Lowen 1983). People with NPD ruin their lives and tend to cause havoc on others, this paper will discuss in depth the causes, symptoms, and treatment for one who has narcissistic personality disorder.
They lack empathy and appears to be incapable of understanding or responding to other’s needs and feelings unless they correspond with their own. Narcissists believes that everyone who does not share their uniqueness are inferior, thinking they can only be understood or associated with people who are special as they are. Narcissists utilizes people for their needs and have no sympathy for the effect it have on other people.
