The Puritans’ beliefs in the 17th century were different than most of the citizens that live in this modern day society. The Puritan beliefs are based on the of the Church of England, but they purified the religion. The Scarlet Letter is based off the Puritans’ beliefs and the story of society that the Puritans lived in; some other critics observe that Nathaniel Hawthorne criticizes the Puritans society and their beliefs.…

I believe that Lorenzo’s confrontation with Continental’s unions could have been conducted a different way. They could simply listen to each other’s viewpoint and not interrupt with one another is speaking. This way each other can hear their viewpoint and maybe understand one another better. If Lorenzo would have listened to what his employees were trying to say, he may have gotten ideas from them and used them for his company.…

Gender Roles: A Cultural Phenomenon Gender roles have been in the spotlight lately throughout the late 20th and early 21st centuries, but gender role issues have been a prominent problem for countless years in many different societies around the world. One work of art that highlights gender roles is the film Orlando (1992), which was directed by Sally Potter and adapted from Virginia Woolf’s novel, Orlando. Woolf’s Orlando was published in 1928 and tells a tale where the plot spans over 300 years to show case gender bending throughout history. While critics claim that Orlando remains the same person when he changes into a woman, he in fact develops a whole new personality and different way of seeing the world when he is female through the use of parallelism seen from Orlando living as a male versus living the life of a female.…
The topic of equality is not something that is new to me, but as of recently has opened my eyes to new perspectives and ideas on the subject. Through women and gender studies, I have discovered that I am a post-feminist with sincere fictions about some of the people around me. Although I consider myself open, accepting and curious of other cultures, women and gender studies has allowed me the opportunity to explore a couple of topics through campus discussions to apply my newfound knowledge. I was able to attend a scholarly discussion based on overcoming set identities, binary understanding of religions through the need of belonging to a community and bridging gender gaps in outdoor leadership. The ladder is interesting to me since I am a minority in my field of outdoor leadership and education. Women studies will enable me to better address gender issues and insecurities in the field. While there have been advancements in equality for people based on gender, class, race, ethnic and social backgrounds, we still have farther to go before we can truly reach equality.…

The theory of social construction of gender is embedded views from society on gender roles, responsibility and our rights. Everyday activities are assumed that a certain gender is expected to do something rather than both genders taking on activities and keeping both genders equal. Men are assumed to go to work and women are expected to stay home and take care of the house and care for the children. It is not a norm for society to have the roles reversed. When a child is born the sex is determined by their anatomical characteristics. However, it is assumed that the role of the male or female is to be their assigned gender. Gender is the socially assigned behaviors and norms for a specific gender. We as a society…
The basic unit of society is a woman. As woman makes a family, family makes a home and homes make a society. So we should never think that a society would come into existence without the contribution of women. We all know that without education, no development is possible.
