Imagine 96.9 million people watching the same thing, ingesting copious amounts of food and beer, and cheering maliciously for a squad that may or may not be their team of choice. I grew up in South Africa where the Super bowl is not nearly as big as it is in the United States. I was naive to the idea of watching any big game besides the World Cup. When I moved to the US I did not know what the Super bowl was. 198 countries watch the Super bowl and it is aired in 25 different languages across the world. I can’t help but think to myself that this is just a game and I don’t really care who wins, even though my surrounding suggested otherwise. I am sitting in a room full of diehard Seahawks fans. All of the furniture has been moved to each wall in the little room so that everyone can see the big flat screen TV. Beers are cracked, chip bags are opened, and we are about to watch the most watched TV program in United States history, the Super Bowl. Bronco’s fans are turned away and the guys roar at them as they try to enter the small apartment. “If you are not supporting the Seahawks you can stand up and get the hell out” one of my friends yelled as non-supporters walked away. Bud Light is the beer of choice in the room and Doritos are the chip of choice. As the game is about to start the room ignites and everyone is immediately fired up. The commercials play through the loud chatter in the apartment and they seem to be unimportant except for a few that are considered memorable. The Super Bowl is a spectacle and there is nothing else like it. The Super Bowl is a large reflection of American culture. Through media, commercials, and the atmosphere that this game creates, patriotism and masculinity are unintentionally the main aspects of this spectacle.…

The Dallas Cowboys finished last year season with a 12-4 record. Almost coming out of Training Camp without any major injuries to a key player’s defensive back Orlando Scandrick tore his ACL/MCL last week. Scandrick is out for the season. Even though losing Scandrick is tough I still believe the Cowboys will be fine because they have depth at the defensive back position, and upgrading the pass rush which the defensive backs won’t have to cover wide-receivers for so long. With the additions of Greg Hardy, Byron Jones, Randy Gregory, Corey White, DeMarcus Lawrence developing his body into becoming a force at the left end, defensive position, and Tyrone Crawford is looking to have a Pro Bowl Caliber year the Cowboys finally have depth at the defensive…

The Super Bowl is one of the biggest highlights for football that happens once a year, and this year it’s taking place in San Francisco. The Miami Dolphins are a professional American football team based in the Miami metropolitan area. The team is part of the AFC East, or American Football Conference's East Division, in the National Football League (NFL). The Dolphins play their home games at Sun Life Stadium in the northern suburb of Miami Gardens, and have their headquarters in Davie, Florida. The Dolphins are one of the oldest NFL franchises of the South and Miami is the oldest AFC team in that region. In their early start of 1966, the Dolphins quickly became one of professional football’s winning team. Shortly after their start the Dolphins won two Super Bowls back to back in 1972 and 1973, but the teams record has suffered in the past few years and this has caused poor attendance to the games. In the 2001-2002 season, the team brought in an average of 73,470 fans to watch home games, the seventh highest in the NFL. By the 2011-2012 season, that figure dropped to 60,866, the fifth lowest.…
