My Writing Style In Poetry
In Composition 2, taught by Professor Milka Mosley, you will be reading a lot of unique essays that will inspire you to write unique essays of your own. You will find various writing styles that will hopefully benefit the advancement of your own writing style. Out of all the essays that I have read thus far, the work that has affected me the most was “Learning About work from Joe Cool” by Atkin.
In “Learning About work from Joe Cool” the author used a story to teach students about how they should view work. Since I tend to write in story-mode all the time, I felt that I related to this piece of work the most compared to all the others. In the story, the author describes the day-to-day life experiences of Joe Cool who works at a supermarket,

When I started this class, I believe I had strong writing skills, and now I believe these skills have strengthened, making me a more conscious writer. Before this class, I have not focused on aspects such as sentence length and specific words that I am using. Instead, I simply wrote and worked on proper grammar. My essay writing skills have definitely improved throughout this class simply due to the fact that I spend more time writing my essays. Now that I have mastered more skills, I can utilize them in every essay from here on out. While I know that I still have room to improve, I am pleased by my progress and I feel more confident about my writing. I have always enjoyed writing essays, but this class has helped me more fully understand the complexities of writing an essay. Previously, most essays I have written have been standard for English classes, and…

Over the course of the past three months, I have had the distinct pleasure of testing my writing capabilities through the Introduction to College Writing course. I have always had a passion for writing in all forms, but in previous years, the course work in grade-level English classes have been unchallenging of my writing ability. I have been heavily involved in Bonneville High School’s newspaper through journalism since my freshman year. This allowed me to strengthen my writing capability as I was drafting throughout the entire school year. I have never truly had to apply myself until I enrolled in English 101. Since the beginning of the class, I have faced various hardships while writing essays in unfamiliar styles, such as drafting a response to a scholarly article and synthesizing opposing perspectives. I have learned that I am more than capable in writing in different styles and that all of my work will be quality content regardless of the topic. I overcame the obstacles that have challenged me, and my essays exhibit that I am fully prepared to continue my work in English 102.…

Composition 2 has revolutionized my understanding of what it takes to make writing a powerful tool. The most amazing aspect of this course was for me to see the ways I grew in how I wrote, and what I wrote for, especially with the affirmative action paper. In practicality, I learned how to choose more supporting evidence from a vast collection of articles. Intellectually, I acquired the ability to understand what mattered to me, why it did, and how writing can bring forth a second opinion to many who may have opposed…

When the semester began I thought to my knowledge that my writing was that of good quality. Though I had a good basic understanding of the format of an essay or letter I still had a lot to learn. My writing changed in many ways such as learning to eliminate unnecessary wording in my thesis, the use of synonyms, analyzing quotes and writing abstract to concrete thoughts or ideas. This Class not only helped enhance my writing abilities but to also better evaluate the writings of others and forced me to acknowledge the rigorous work of future courses in college.…

“The Widow’s Lament in Springtime” by William Carlos Williams is a lovely poem that goes straight to the heart of anyone that has lost a loved one. Death is a physical energy that can drain and change an individual’s entire outlook on life as well as any joy that has been experienced. Some people are so affected that they see no relief in sight and want nothing more than that relief. What is amazingly captured by the author of this poem is the woman’s separation from her husband. She feels devastated and not sure she can go on without him. She lament’s sorrowfully even as her surroundings are coming to life. The poet uses the element of alliteration. This is evident in the words flames, flamed and fire; and later in the poem feel, fall and flowers. Assonance is also very visible as is reflected later in the poem with words like they, today and away. Symbolism and pathos add to the poem making it a very poignant story.…

I now feel, after being a student of this class, being successful in business or school requires the ability to organize, arrange, and compose thoughts into a logical format. Without these skills it is impossible to communicate thoughts and emotions grammatically. Reflecting on the past three months, I notice that our English 1A class has learned skills necessary to develop personal, informative, and persuasive essays. These are essential points needed to become successful in today's society. In previous English courses that I have participated in, I never realized that essay-writing skills were so important. Because of this class, my attitude toward writing has matured into an understanding of what it takes to be a good writer. Without the knowledge of why writing skills were important, I was concerned about "just getting by". Now, I enjoy the challenge of composing an interesting and thought provoking essay. I find myself developing an essay with my reader in mind, and thinking what might stimulate them to read my work. This class has developed my senses and stimulated my curiosity in the literary world and I feel I have made significant progress in my writing process. The most important of which being how, by the proper use of commas, transitions, and supportive quotes, I transform my average essay into a well composed, interesting literary work, well at least I think it’s interesting.…

To be honest, I have always used my emotions when I write, whether it is for a hobby or for my work in college. My emotions have always helped me push through assignments that I considered difficult and taking a position on projects that required me to take a side. However, my emotional style of writing was not able to overcome this new style of writing that my rhetorical communications professor introduced to me. I will admit it, I did get aggravated in the beginning of the class because this kind of writing was unfamiliar to me. But I began to broaden my horizons on how I write and properly communicating my own ideas which led me to develop my theory of writing through four major assignments that was given to me. The theory of writing that I have developed over the semester involves adapting my writing style in order to fit what is required for the paper. What this means is that my writing style is constantly changing rather than being fixed on only one style of writing. Due to my…
