My Writing Skills
During this composition course I have learned many things, and I have overcome many bad habits. Writing use to be one of my least favorite things to do because of how bad I was at it. Now that I have learned new tips and tricks about writing I find it more enjoyable. During this course my writing habits have changed, some of my weaknesses in writing turned into my strengths, my overall paper writing skills have improved, and many more things. Another thing that was very beneficial to my writing was the different writing prompts that we did. These prompts would all make you use different writing skills and techniques. Overall this course was a big help towards my writing skills. The first thing I would like to comment on is myself as a writer. …show more content…
Each project involved many different writing skills and techniques. The first project that we did involved writing about something pertaining to your personal life. This project mainly just required good brain storming and organization skills to put the paper together. I also liked this project because it did not involve any research and it was all about yourself so you could write it in basically any way that you pleased. The second writing project that we did was responding to an op-ed. This was my favorite project out of all of them. In this project you had to respond to an another authors writing with counter arguments. This project required critical thinking skills, organizational skills, and knowledge about the topic. This was one of my favorite project because I got to argue a topic that I had a lot of knowledge about. The third project was a research project. This project you had to come up with a question and research your question. This project also involved critical thinking skills, organizational skills, and research skills. All of these projects were very helpful and shaped me into a better writer. As said before one thing that comes along with writing is revision. One type of revision that I was never a big fan of was peer revision. I always use to be nervous when I would have to have my paper revised by another person because my writing was so poor. After doing it many times during this class …show more content…

The Wichita Kid from “The Gunfighter” by Alden Nowlan and a young man living on the streets of Calgary both demonstrate that we fear what we do not understand. Citizens need to personally comprehend someones situation before they can help or judge them directly. Homelessness and poverty are often hard situations to face considering how uncomfortable and awkward it can become. When Kevin O’Brien has a short conversation with Wichita he learns that he is unaware of reality and living his delusional life as a famous gunfighter. Confused and not understanding Wichita’s situation, Kevin tries to solve his own guilt by lending the young boy some spare change. Much like Kevin O’Brien when I encountered the young unfortunate man in Calgary my own heart ached, so I tossed him a couple of loonies and left. Although you feel major misery there is rarely anything you can do to support them without getting deeply involved.…

I am glad that I took this composition course. Before I took this class, I would say that I was just an average writer. I took this class in hopes that I would learn more about writing and learn new skills that I can apply to my writing process. I have only been in this class for one quarter, but I would say that I am a much better writer than I was before I took this class. I have learned new skills that expand my writing above the level it was. I have also learned more about myself as a writer and what is working and what is not working with my writing process.…

As a student coming fresh out of high school I am still used to writing as I have been taught since I was in middle school. We were taught to outline, make a first draft, have someone read that draft, revise and then hand in the final copy. This is a long and boring process that has not changed and is always so repetitive. We always had to write five paragraph papers about things that would never be relevant to my future. In this class I hope to change my approach and how I feel about writing.…

From the assignments and researches, I achieved a great deal of understanding about critical thinking, writing a correct sentence and most of all realizing the different thoughts from different people in the class. People have their own opinions in every worked paper we have done which helps me to realize that people have different believes concerning different issues. I respect every once opinions and am happy that I took them as a good knowledge gained. I just wish I would have taken a class like this sooner! The research and actual writing process just seems so much easier once you break it down.…

    My Writing Capabilities

My writing capabilities, when writing about things like emotions, fall within the limits of those that I love. I could write novels about my mother’s strength or my sister’s dedication or even one about my cat’s eating habits, but when I’ve been asked to write about myself, I never can. For a lack of a more scholarly word choice, I see difficulty in talking about myself or my qualities without feeling as if I have an extremely inflated sense of self. I tend to keep to myself and while to my innermost social circle it may sound insane, I had a tough transition to coming to terms with who I am during a time when my mother was absent due to illness and I felt misguided. I can recall several instances in which I would stare myself down in the mirror…

Writing has not always been a strong suit of mine. Even in the present moment I sometimes struggle with writing. I have done numerous papers, ranging from daily journals to argumentative essays. I will admit that the older I grew I realized that writing helps in many ways. It can be a form of stress relieving, which I sometimes take into consideration when I have sort of a lot going on mentally. Many writing assignments were about what I liked to do hobby-wise, what my plans were for the future career/ school-wise, how I felt about certain discussed subjects nationwide such as the election of a black president, the rights for gay marriage, as well as oversea discussions, like the human trafficking in Thailand.…
