My Shield Speech: My Conversation To Rap The Soccer Field
My shield speech went a little better than I intended it to go. I thought it was going to go horribly wrong. That I wouldn’t know what to say next. My attention getter, I thought was a pretty good one, at the beginning of the speech I was really nervous about the whole thing. My knees were shaking uncontrollably, and so I started to move around. That’s one way you could tell that I was nervous. I was trying to move around. Towards the middle of the presentation, I made people laugh a couple times and that really brought the tension down quite a bit. I wasn’t as nervous. I messed up the concussion. I looked up at the time cards and saw that there were 5 minutes on the clock and so I had to hurry and get done with all my bullet points because …show more content…
I’m going to be completely honest and say that I didn’t do much to prepare for the presentation. I had other things planned out for my presentation. I wanted to make a soccer field and compare how the defender, goalie, midfielders, and the forwards represent my family, but it was already 10 p.m. when I started my shield and I didn’t have construction paper to rap the shield with green and make the soccer field. So instead I just made a poster and put the topics on it. I was going to print the pictures at home because we had a printer at home. When I started the poster, I also noticed the printer had no ink. It had run out of ink. I was really nervous because I had no clue how I was going to do my presentation; I have no study halls before my oral comp. class. On the day of my presentation I had to wake up at 6 a.m. which is way earlier than I’m normally waking up. Normally I wake up at 7:30 a.m. and prepare myself for school, but I had to wake up at 6 a.m. because my only option then was to go to school really early and use the printer here. I know it wasn’t the best Idea to work on the presentation a couple hours before I had to present. I had no time to go over the presentation because of the time

I went the first day, so I don’t have a recording to look at. Even though I cannot see my speech I still realized some of my strengths and weaknesses. Some of my weaknesses consisted of: bad transition words, sounding shaky within the introduction, and time. My strengths consisted of: good movement, good tone, good statistics, and good eye contact. To start off my introduction I was very nervous, and I don’t know for sure, but I think the audience could tell. My transition into my first main point was not the best, but once I was in my first main point I was able to settle and really stroll through the rest of my speech. Within my speech I was able to incorporate many statistics to make my point why horse slaughter is needed although I am still…

“ What a beautiful day for some Dodger baseball,” Commented Vin Scully, with this legendary saying you knew that it was indeed a good day for baseball. The Commissioner of Baseball was driving down the highway on his royal blue Ferrari, casually listening to any baseball game that was on the radio. Normally a Cubs, Braves, or dodgers game is broadcasted. Thankfully the commissioner got in his car right as the first pitch was thrown. Knowing the Hall of Fame induction was tomorrow, The commissioner went out to buy an expensive and the nicest suit he could possibly find. Four hours later, Rob Manfred returned to his mansion in his white Ferrari f12. To his right was a Lamborghini Aventador and Lamborghini Huracan, to his left was a Ferrari…

The one sub-category of this section that I felt that Javier could’ve executed better was the appearance of being prepare. I’m not trying to say that he did know the material but when he’s presenting a speech in front of the audience and reading his out-line can really make the audience feel like he wasn’t prepare or intersected in the audience at all. After observing this, I decided to give a three in the sub-category of the section because maintaining eye contact with the audience as much as possible let’s the audience know that you appreciate their attend and therefore, keeps the audience interacting. What I recommend is to next time try to not use the out-line so much and only use it to keep you on track and to read off any direct quotes you may have. Try to have an ideal or mental picture in your head of how your out-line looks like so you kind of have memorizes your main points and can talk about them without reading your out-line word for word. Overall, Javier did a outstanding job with the rest of the sub-categories in this section like meeting all of the requirements of the assignment and adapting the speech to fit the audience.…

Watching ones self speak is never exactly fun. Once again, however, I was pleasantly surprised. This time I was even happier with how I had done then I was with my first speech. I could tell with the IDEA speech that I was more calm. I wasn’t making as many nervous movements, as I did with with Grab Bag speech. I feel like my delivery was much better. While I need to continue to learn to slow down and speak more like I would in real life, my delivery was much more clear. This has a lot to do with not being as nervous. I know that I have a tendency to speak quickly, and I need to work on not sounding like I am reading from my note cards. I do feel like having note cards with me, tends to make my speeches worse. I need to learn to not rely on them as much. This is something I will continue to work on. I still have a tendency to use verbal fillers, however, I noticed them much less in this speech then I did in my Grab Bag…

People ask me why I care so much. They tell me it’s just a game, get over it. But soccer has never been just a game to me. Soccer has been consuming my time, thoughts, and body since my parents signed me up for small-time recreational soccer twelve years ago that developed into extremely competitive travel soccer. They, perhaps unknowingly, threw me headlong into a life of traveling countless miles, long nights of practice, and an unforgettable amount of tears, sweat, and bloodshed. All which persisted over the course of my extensive soccer career.…

I had all my props with, and I knew what I wanted to do. Unfortunately some complications occurred. First of all, my piece was basically all music, but I did not get the speaker working until about 20 minutes into my time in the X. That is when I started panicking. I could not do much without the music, and I was having to improvise. Also, I had wanted room 20 (I think) because it had the mirrors I needed, but another group was using it. I tried coping with using the X, but that was not working. When my time was up in the X, I had not got anything done that I had wanted to. My group and I ended up working the rest of the time in a dressing room. I decided to use the dressing room for my piece because I needed the mirrors. However, this brought up another problem because we were not able to use the blocks while practicing in the room. The first time they performed the piece for the class was their first time ever using the blocks for the full song and in that room. My group was very patient with me and the complications and I am very proud of them for just going with what we had. In the end, I think it turned out fine, but I wish I would have had more time and less complications while creating this…

My communication with the client’s was strong during the assessments as I was able to guide them on what I was doing. One thing that didn’t go so well for me was my presentation on stroke to the men at DOF. I was prepared for my part of the presentation as I had the notes I needed with me. I would know what I wanted to say, but I would hesitate and get nervous. What I would do in the future to change this situation, would be to calm myself down and enforce some confidence in myself; overall public speaking isn’t my best…

Started of with 20 minutes of portfolio work, then went on to do my check in and this weeks theme was sports. I chose to be a game of golf as felt tired and slow today. Then I done a recap of last week, I normally have my folder on my lap when doing this and normally look through my notes to remind me of what was covered last week so i had something to input to the class, but my folder was on the floor, so i went to pick it up while Phil was talking which meant I was not listening to him at level 3 so Paula mentioned this out and as she done so i felt the whole class looking at me which made me embarrassed and go red in the face, I had to cover my face with my hands so that no one could see my face and I asked everyone to stop looking at me. Not sure why this happened but it put me a funny mood for the rest of the day and was very upset with myself. I felt like i did not input much this week as was feeling crap.…
