My Room
There is an old proverb which states "When you are a child, your room is the world to you." I believe this is a very true statement and applies to most children. In a room of his own a boy can become whatever he likes and make his surroundings fit that idea or "theme" if you will. I have grown out of these childhood fancies, but still have an evident theme controlling this place where I spend my time.
As one walks into my room a large black and white skin catches the eye. This tapestry reveals itself to be a skin of a zebra which I acquired through my father on our trip through Africa. Throughout the skin there are patched holes where the beast was shot. This large item is the focal point of my room and reflects my "hobby" and passion for traveling. Turning to the right the visitor sees other from my other things from far away lands mounted on the wall. These things range from Greek swords to an unique Tanzanian lion-hunting arrow. All of these things I acquired traveling throughout Southern Europe, Africa, and America, and each have a special meaning and value to me.
Below this array of seemingly ancient things sits the large Sony stereo system I received for my birthday this year. This hulk of machinery adds contrast to the display above it as well as giving my room high-quality sound. A turn to the left now unveils a bookshelf containing: all of my hardback books, my alarm clock, my trophies and ribbons, and most of my CD's and tapes. This storage space is really an unnecessary extra but it does help keep my room from being cluttered or messy.
Up against this same wall is my bed. This bed was handed down from my great grandmother to my grandmother to my mom to me. It has been kept because of it's value and because of sentiment. Crafted out of solid pine by hand and held together by iron pegs, it adds to the "rustic" theme of my room. I believe this to be almost a mirror of my personality because I rarely change from my happy, reliable self and this bed has

At moments where you visited stores filled with videos, you didn’t buy them for rental periods, but bought each in mint condition, glistening plastic wrap still intact. You took cases back to your mansion, stacking each atop your den’s CRT. Twenty cases sat atop the Mitsubishi by then, ten to fifteen tapes in each pile. From afar, somebody might presume a Manhattan skyline replica was atop the TV. Each tape formed high buildings rising to stratospheric plateaus, chaotic messes on one tiny black concrete piece. Individuals said you might be wise to invest in a shelf or two with capabilities for housing such an enormous investment. You responded by saying you liked having things in their proper…

Instead of storing books on it, use it for decorative trinkets, and place your lamp, and other nighttime goodies on top. Using a bookshelf is a great way to punctuate the style of your bedroom without taking up too much room. Another option is to install sturdy shelves on the wall next to your bed; the shelf will serve the same purpose, but will save you floor space.…

People always want to live and travel abroad, to experience new sensations and create life time memories, but as the cliché goes “you can take the boy out of the town but not the town out of the boy” pertains to be very true. When people go abroad they bring with them little things that remind of them home. Sometimes its pictures, sometimes its lucky coins or tokens, but when people move abroad they tend to adjust their entire living space to what makes them feel most comfortable at home. Sometimes its posters, framed pictures of family and pets, but often times it’s in the details of how you live that really reflect the things that make you most comfortable. In this room’s case, the living room of my current abroad apartment, it is the convenient set up and the scattered trash that reflects the way in which I attempt to make this room feel like a little bit of home.…

    A Gothic Short Story

I haven’t visited for many years but I visited so much as a child I do not need a tour. The ceilings are very high and I can barely see them in the darkness of the night. The walls all have lovely paintings covering them. I can tell the interior design has been thoroughly thought out and the colour scheme is gold, black and red. When I finally make it up the many flights of stairs to the 6th floor of the building where my room is situated I thank the butler for taking care of me and go inside. The first thing I notice is how dark the room is. The only source of light is the moon light shining through the window, which casts a mysterious glow across the room. I quickly go to the fireplace and light it to provide me with not just light but warmth as I am cold from my trek. After successfully lighting the fire I light a candle next to my bed. I then finally have a look around my room. It looks as if they had set this room up for me with months’ notice, but in truth they only found out a week ago they would be taking me in. there is a lovely vanity on one side of the room, a wardrobe full of lovely clothing and many expensive pieces of furniture laid out around the room. Deciding to thoroughly look through my room in the morning I find a gown to wear to bed and go to…

    My Messy Room

I am currently sitting in my bedroom, on a cold winter day. My feet touching the rough surface of my ancient Persian carpet, walls of orangey orange stare at me through the pictures on them, and the mountains of dirty clothes falling over me as if there was an avalanche going on. Today is not going well as I feel stressed from all the chores that I have, plus the cleaning of my over infected room. Even though every visitor that gets to see my room may suffer blindness from seeing the mess, I love this room because it has a certain warmth and glow that allows my mind to rest in peaceful bliss. Yes, maybe there is a smell of wet dog and there are pets that I never brought home crawling around every corner of this room but it is the place where I grew up and feel safe to be when I am down. There are so many great treasures hidden in this room that as soon as I clean, I feel water drops fall from my dark brown eyes and run across my cheeks until they fall from my chin and hit the floor. Out of a 24 hour day I may only take 7 hours to get this place spotless and be able to observe the wonders hidden inside of the black door that covers the entrance.…
