My professional Goals

Michelle Jackson

It’s been 11 years since I was in school. I had no choice but to leave. Uncle Sam said I had to go away for a year. Luckily I was able to finish the spring semester before my year long trip to the sand. I enjoyed my experience overseas and felt that I wanted to do it full time and help others. When I came home I got an active duty job with the Army helping wounded Soldiers. I spent nine years doing what I loved. When my time was up on active duty I decided I was going to continue my education and finish my degree. But before I do that I wanted to spend some good quality time with my son. Being in the army is demanding and gave me little time to spend with him.

I changed my major a few times when I was in school all those years ago. With all my army training in the Human Resources field I decided to pursue a degree in Business Management. One goal I have is within this next year I hope to have a better understanding of the business management field through the classes I’ll be taking. I don’t want to be one of those people that just takes a class and gets nothing out of it. I look forward to being challenged and putting my mind to work.

Since the army is a big and very important part of my life another goal is to bring what I learn in my classes to my army career. I have fourteen years of army training but I believe civilian education can improve me as a Soldier and leader in the army. And who knows maybe once I have my bachelor’s degree I will go to Officer Candidate School and become a Commissioned Officer in the Army. Having my degree gives me this option, one I never had before.

I have a roommate who is also in the army and we have been talking about starting a business together. Between the both of us we have some knowledge, but getting a degree in business management would definitely put us in the right direction. Even before I get my

I can personally relate to this matter because my major is business management, but I am currently enrolled in a marketing class. I’m required to take the class in order to get my degree, but that’s not a problem to me. The class will allow me to have an easier transition than most individuals, if I wanted to go the marketing route. In conclusion, taking this class could be a bonus for me just in case I decide to change my mind and pursue a career that involves both management and marketing.…

The United States Military has always been an influential and important part of my life growing up as child. My grandfather was a Marine who fought in the battle of Okinawa during World War II and he has always instilled a deep sense of pride and respect for my country in me. As a child, I dreamt that one day I would have the honor and the opportunity of becoming a member of the United States military and make him proud. Today, I serve in the United States Army as a Non-Commissioned Officer and I have had the pleasure of leading and mentoring junior enlisted soldiers, as well as my peers, for the past ten years. I believe my experience, professionalism, and leadership will be helpful in serving my country as a United States Army Officer.…

My professional goal is to become a teacher with hard work and dedication I know I can reach my lifetime goal. For my extra-curricular activities, I have attended the Head Start at Brookhaven Community College where I have volunteered over thirty hours in a semester to get myself prepared for the profession. Going to the local Head Start gave me the opportunity to see if this is really what I want to do for many years. I put myself in a position where I actually enjoyed what I was doing, I had patience which a lot of people don’t have to teach younger kids. I worked with three to five years old, I had to show them I was the leader. In my four years of High School, I have taken my time out to be a leader in my school. I was vice-president freshman…

Why I made the choice to return to college and complete my degree in Business System Administration is unique. I have thought about this for years and it’s a personal goal I want to accomplish. I have a great job in the military teaching new soldiers which is something I love and enjoy. I am ten years away from retiring and looking forward to life after the military. Why would a person that is in the middle of their career want to return to school? The answer to this question is that it’s a personal goal I’ve had for years to obtain a college degree. I have started and stopped several times due to my deployments and family commitments. I have tried on different occasions to start back but the military makes it almost impossible to plan ahead and commit to anything long term.…

Life for me has been very interesting. I started off in the nursing field as a nursing assistant and patient care tech at 19 working my way through school both full-time and part-time until I finally graduated from Virginia State University with my Associate’s of Science Degree in Nursing. After accomplishing that goal I have reached somewhat of a plateau in my life I have so many short and long-term goals I want to accomplish both professionally and personally. Some of professional goals are, becoming a supervisor at my current job, obtaining my Advance Life Support Certification, obtaining my Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, enlisting into the Navy Nurse Corps, becoming a Nurse Practitioner, and eventually one day becoming an Administrator of an Acute Care Facility. As well as having professional goals in life you should have personal goals. My short and long term-personal goals are; relocating to Chicago, Illinois, getting married, and having children. The typical American Dream. These goals are not far from my reach with self motivation and perseverance all of these goals can be accomplished.…
