December 4, 2012 Extra credit Selected Epidemiology Study If I had all the money and resources then I would want to do a case control study dealing with groups of technology users’ exposure to radioactivity mainly teenagers and comparing it to a group that does not have access to any technology. I would conduct an interview on both groups with the group that has access to technology such as computers, cell phones, and iPods then ask the same questions for the other group that has no access to technology because they are either in a low income family, elderly, or poverty population. Some of the interview questions I will be asking the group I am doing the study on if they have access to technology, and what time of day they use technology?, how often they use it?, what specific technology they use such as computers, cell phones, or iPods?, how many hours do they use it?, and do they do any other activity besides using technology? Some of the risks are the exposure of radioactivity from these technologies, carpal tunnel syndrome from typing for a very long period of time, texting while driving causes distraction but also fatal accidents, nerve damage, stress on eyes, mental stimulation, decrease in memory, loss of hearing, and the frontal lobe is the area that stores the memory which will lead to brain damage. These are just the beginning of some of the symptoms but also risks to be aware of. The group that has access to technology should think about the consequences of these technologies they used mostly every day. Some of the outcomes are the group that does not have access to technology has less of a risk to the many risks from technology usage, and the group with access to technology could suffer from major risks of brain damage, fatal accidents, carpal syndrome, and nerve damage. With these study groups the best route to go would have to be the group without the use of technology, or use technology

To begin with, a risk of technology is causing distractions. “If we’re distracted we understand less, remember less, and learn less.” (Is Google Making Us Stupid?) That is the major problem with the internet and technology, mostly because when people use their devices they are always distracted. The internet distracts people with different notifications that interferes with…

Technology has evolved immensely during the past few decades. It’s everywhere, and everyone uses it; technology is a necessity of life. It lights homes, makes transportation easy, makes research simple, and entertains. Although it has many benefits, technology also has negative side effects. Phones and TVs have become a major distraction from everyday things like students’ homework, adults’ work, and driving. There are hundreds of car accidents caused by texting and driving. Furthermore, technology is addicting- society has become too dependent on it. A day without iPhones would probably be almost impossible for some. The next generation is being raised amongst all of this technology, and they aren’t being taught like the past generations were. Will this result in catastrophe later? Overall, technology has a very negative effect on society.…

The first disadvantage to technology is communication. As Tim Wilson says in Source B “how do we communicate with students today who have grown up with technology from the beginning?”. This statement really makes people think. The internet has had such a gigantic impact on our lives. We have all been so deep in our devices that when it comes to basic socializing we no longer can communicate smoothly. It is incredibly awkward so we turn back to our cellular devices and this is not a good thing.…

A teacher’s personal philosophy speaks volumes on what they believe and how one attains knowledge. This personal philosophy reflects their principles and methods of education as a whole. According to Webb, Jordan, & Metha (2010), educational philosophy “enables us to recognize certain educational principles that define our views about the learner, the teacher, and the school” (p. 50). There are many educational philosophies that one may relate to. Understanding these principles and abiding by them makes a teacher’s instruction more effective.…

Technology has been a very influential matter to all of us in general. For some people it means new and exciting things but for others is a set of challenging thing about to take a turn for the better or for the worst. Technology although good has been affecting not only how people communicate, but also the way they think or react to things. It has also changed how people write, read, the way they communicate and interacts with others. I believe it poses a threat, by affecting the cognitive skills and/or abilities one once have and therefore a new set of wiring in the brain. I believe that (although it may be to some extend help with multitasking), it could easily shift into a more complex matter by people not focusing enough on what need to be done and learned and/or becoming more dependent of these resources not necessarily learning a specific task correctly and accurately.…

One effect the technology has is a negative influence on the social lives of youth, because it keeps people from experiencing reality. Youth are losing contact face to face because even they are at a party, family reunion or hanging out friends, most youth cannot leave their technological devices on the side and enjoy the moment. If youths are constantly being cut off from people and new experiences because of technology, our generation is dying in social life. If we never face reality by making personal relationships, experiencing things, and solving problems, we will never know how to solve any problem without help of technology.…
