My Philosophy as a Teacher

I always believed that life is short so we have to make the best out of it. I wanna make my life meaningful. But the questions is: How can I make the best out of my life? As I look ahead, I realized that I have to do a lot of things before I can accomplish things which I considered to be the best thing to do. I have to prioritize things and accomplish things accordingly. And what should I accomplish first? When I was young, I have always told myself that I wanna be a teacher. I want to do things that a teacher is doing. I have imagined a teacher to be somebody who would come to school, teach the students and check their papers everyday. After 14 years of studying, I became a teacher and I found out that a teacher is so much more than I have imagined. It is not just coming to school and check papers of the students. A teacher has responsibility on his shoulder to carry. He will be producing future leaders and the way you teach your students will show what kind of teacher you are. According to Locke, a teacher is 60% responsible for whatever happened to the students at school and that is something that a teacher should take as a challenge to their profession. As a teacher, I thought teaching them the best way I could is enough already. When I became a class adviser, I found out that teaching is beyond the meaning of what is a teacher. When you became a teacher, you became the second parent of the students under you. As a second parent, the problems of the students at school and at home became the problem of the teacher also. This is a reality that other people couldn’t see and don’ want to see. The Philosophy of Confucius that states: “Humans are the best resources that a country had and that they can be subject to perfection if given the opportunity and the resources’’, is the guiding philosophy that I wanna lived on.
