My personal philosophy reinforces the existing nursing theories, because it borrows heavily from Jean Watson theory of Human Caring. The main defining elements of my philosophy are respect for life and dignity of every person. This implies that the theory takes into consideration the various physical, spiritual and environmental needs required by patients to attain the anticipated health outcomes.     Since I was very young, I have always wanted to be a nurse. As a 5 year-old, I practiced nursing playing with my dolls and younger sister. Now, when I look back and remember what I was doing as a young girl, it reminds me the simple and unique quality of nursing, which is caring and comforting. According to Rogers nursing is "a learned profession, both a science and an art" (as cited in Masters, 2009 ). The art of nursing is the empathic drive that initiates the nurse to care when she see a sick person that has a need to be fulfilled physically and mentally. The application of the knowledge using evidence based facts is the science part of nursing. I am very interested in educating others regarding health issues.     I am a forty-one year old wife and mother of one twelve year old daughter. I have been a nurse for eighteen years, thirteen of which have been in Oncology. My first job as a nurse was at a nursing home. I knew I did not want to be there long term as my goal was to be an Oncology nurse.     I hope by telling my nursing experience story that it will make you think about a special patient that you had the opportunity to take care of. The night before my first day of clinical I was excited and nervous. I did not know what type of patient I would have and I did not know if nursing was truly for me. I remember lying in bed praying to God to please not let my first patient be a man because I did not know how to take care of a male patient (at least that is what I thought). I kept thinking I have only seen my husband naked I don’t want to see another man naked and I definitely did not want to give one a bath. I know that this is naïve but this is how I felt at the time.
