My Nursing Philosophy
Introduction
Everyone has a philosophy based on their beliefs and values, which help them to make choices in their lives. Having a philosophy means having certain principles and integrate them with other ideas. It is like having a foundation in which one can start building new things. My philosophy focuses on providing help to those in needs regardless of who they are. It also focuses on the type of relationship I create with the patient and family, and the commitments I make to them and to myself. This paper has the purpose of exploring the principles I consider are crucial in the core of nursing and how those principles relate the patient, the professional and the environment as a whole.

Nursing is an opportunity chosen by those individuals who love using their knowledge and skills to make a difference in another person’s life. As a nurse student, I am aware that it’s necessary the knowledge of medicine to treat and prevent illness, but I have found that to be an excellent nurse I will need more than that. The core of nursing includes dignity, knowledge, autonomy, and integrity, but the main point of nursing is to understand the patient in each level, either physical or emotionally. To achieve it, I need to develop a trusting relationship with my clients and be conscious that each individual has different needs; therefore, each of them requires a different plan of action. After creating a satisfactory relationship with patients, I am going to be able to support, and walk them through the new experience. I am also going to be able to educate them and their families on the disease, treatment, and healthy behaviors in order to improve their …show more content…
My vision of myself as a nurse is that I will always keep learning, especially by being involved in the experiences of the patient and their families. I picture myself working in a place full of interprofessional collaboration, open communication, and positive attitudes. Teamwork and communication are crucial elements in nursing. I consider that working in a place where nurses and other healthcare providers support and assist each other will contribute to better patients outcomes. Since I believe that nursing is more than a profession and is rather something that focused on the commitment to public service, my duty and goal will be to take a role in healthcare issues throughout society. I see myself contributing to the promotion of health and safety not only where I am going to work but also in my community and nationwide. I also see myself integrating appropriately my own values and beliefs into the professional practice. My vision of nursing will focus on doing what is most helpful to my patient. I will always be searching and discovering better ways of doing things at my

My philosophy of nursing is that we must provide care to patients that is competent, holistic, and patient centered. Florence Knightingale said, “Nursing is an art” and “it requires an exclusive devotion as hard a preparation as any painter or sculptors work.” As “artist” we must use our autonomy to continue to improve our form. We must have a drive for lifelong learning and by doing so assures that the patient receive the most efficient care. I will have respect for my work, allowing me to be faithful and honorable to my commitments.…

The art of nursing arose in a primitive time when one person cared for another who was sick. The goal of nursing is to incorporate theoretical and experimental nursing from the sciences and technology. The aim to promote high quality, safe nursing care, to prevent illness and facilitate coping. To accomplish these goals, the nurse takes the role of caregiver, teacher and collaborator. As nursing grows and changes to meet the needs of society, laws have been made and “standard sets that govern the practice of the nursing profession.” (Creasia & Friberg, 2011, p. 47)…

My personal philosophy reinforces the existing nursing theories, because it borrows heavily from Jean Watson theory of Human Caring. The main defining elements of my philosophy are respect for life and dignity of every person. This implies that the theory takes into consideration the various physical, spiritual and environmental needs required by patients to attain the anticipated health outcomes. For this reason, my personal philosophy places a greater responsibility on the nurse to create a favorable environment of promoting health for the…

Nursing at its core is caring, empathy, honesty, trust, communication and respect. I believe the fundamental core of nursing is caring. If you cannot give of yourself to others you are missing the essence of nursing. “In 2003 the ANA stated that an essential feature of professional nursing is the provision of a caring relationship that facilitates health and healing” (as cited in Meyer & Lavin, 2005, para. 1). Another fundamental core of nursing is respect. The nurse must have respect for the patient and their beliefs. Without this basic respect there will remain a lack of trust on the patient’s part to divulge necessary information that can facilitate their recovery. Listening encompasses both verbal and nonverbal communication between the patient and nurse. Developing a relationship based on trust helps foster communication between the patient and nurse. Listening helps identify issues that can hinder the accomplishment of goals that have been set for the patient’s recovery. Jean Watson’s Caring Theory is comprised of ten carative factors that can foster a caring relationship between the patient and the nurse. According to Chantal Cara (A Pragmatic View, Introduction, para. 2) “upholding Watson’s caring theory not only allows the nurse to practice the art of caring, to provide compassion to ease patients’ and families’ suffering, and to promote their healing and dignity but it can also…
