My NFL Journey
The Journey to The NFL Becoming a NFL player is not an easy task. There are many obstacles that you have to overcome. As a kid I always dreamed to being a NFL player… but my dreams were a reality all along. As a kid pee wee football was fun. But as I grew older I learned that I had a passion for the game. From middle school to my ninth-grade I was taking it light. But only knowing that my last three years of high school would change my life. My sophomore year I really worked on my game a lot. Knowing that I wouldn’t get in on Friday night over the varsity players I knew I had to work harder. It made me mad that coach didn’t believe that us sophomores could handle varsity level. My junior year things changed. I started to get more playing …show more content…
My body felt right and I was on a good diet. I was working on my game all off-season. It takes a good football to want to perfect their game because most players think they are already good enough. I knew that to make it in the game of football you can never be too good. The next season I had a career high with three-hundred and forty-two yards. Also with three touchdowns. I loved playing the game but I was kind of sad because going to Oregon my parents couldn’t come too all my games. My whole life my parents came to all of my games. But since I played so far I only told them to only come to my important games and the ones close to home. When I broke my ankle my mom would call and check one me everyday my dad would just show tough love and say “suck it up.” I don’t take it the wrong way I just let it past over my head. My mom was so proud of me because of how far I have came since I was little. When I was little I lived with my mother. But as I got older I got into some trouble a lot. So my dad fought for custody and I had to move with him. I didn’t like that because my mom has always been there for me and my dad was just there. Anyways after my excellent game I got invited to the Heisman Trophy

However, I was in a package against Big Lake and I shut down receiver. The following week in practice while I was working harder than even Coach Herberg came up to me and said “I’m starting you at the corner this week. You had a good game and you deserve it. Good job kid.” We were playing Willmar and I was very nervous. It was my first varsity start. Coaches said that was normal and said for me to relax. I played extremely well and I was very proud of myself. The following three weeks I have started and became more confrontable with playing on Friday night. My focus level was as high as ever and I was improving my talent day by day. Hard work does really pay off. I worked hard and did my job throughout the year and on the field. I listened to my coaches and stayed true to myself and I sure did pay off. I’m playing varsity and had kept the promise I had with myself last…

We were just going through football practice and it just was the same as every other day. We would practice hard and go through all of the conditioning. We just recently played our first football game against Lovel. That consisted of two quarters, which the Freshman played the first two quarters and the Varsity played the second two quarters. At the end of the game, it was 45 to 17, it was not close at all. That was a good way to start off the Freshman year. We were going to play the Cody Broncs in a couple of weeks, but things changed very fast. One of my favorite quotes is “Sometimes it’s the Journey that teaches you about your destination.” (Drake). That Sunday morning after playing Lovel everything in my world was flipped upside down.…

One day my coach pulled me to the side and told me I was going to be the quarterback for the game. I thought I was going to die! I never played quarterback so I was very nervous about messing up. I instantly became sick and thought about leaving the game. My mom was on the sideline, so I went over to her and told her about me being afraid to throw the ball. My mom grabbed me by the shoulders and told me to fight my fear, and focus on being the best quarterback the team ever saw. I turned around, got in the game, they passed me the ball, and I threw the ball directly…

My family did not let me renounce my dream, and they helped me prepare for the next year’s tryouts by driving me to club tryouts, countless lessons, and intramurals. Daily, my brothers and I would practice in our backyard just tossing the ball around. Every day, I would improve, serve the ball further, and my confidence would grow. My dad encouraged me to attempt to play for club teams, and even if I didn’t earn a spot on the team, at least I would gain practice and experience. I tried out for four club teams, and I didn’t earn a spot on any of them, but I believed my skills were improving. By chance, I found one club was having their tryouts much later than all the others, and when I showed up, I was the only one there. They asked me to play for them, and I agreed, but they resulted to be private lessons. Every Monday, I would practice for a couple of hours with a student coach. Occasionally, I would play scrimmages for other teams. Most importantly, I enjoyed those weekly practices. In the final weeks, leading up to the school tryouts, I attended a variety of intramurals and camps. I enjoyed playing with other girls, and I enjoyed the sport. Even though I was usually the weakest player, I enjoyed playing the sport more than winning. When the time came, I was confident in my abilities and prepared to earn a spot on the…

Junior year was here and I hadn’t played in a single game. While at soccer practice, yes I still attended even though I was on crutches and couldn’t play, my mom called me to tell me the results of it my injury. No one had thought it was my Anterior Cruciate Ligament, but it was. It had been completely torn in half and I needed surgery for it to be repaired. He had already put in my name and date for the surgery and everything. I felt like I was paralyzed from the head down. I couldn’t help but feel so torn up about not being able to play the whole season. I decided after the surgery I would try my hardest to recover and build my self better than what I was. I went to physical therapy every day I needed to and finished…

I was extremely nervous despite the fact that everyone had told me I was going to make varsity since I had done so well at camp. There were about 23 people trying out for varsity and only 18 could make it and so I had a good chance at making the team but that still did not calm my nerves. Before we went out to the brand new turf field for tryouts I was psyching myself out and was doubting myself in all ways possible. My hands were shaking, I was sweating, all while listening to the calm chatter of everyone else echoing loudly in the locker room. “You can’t make varsity; the others are just too good” I was telling myself. During tryouts the pace was fast, the humidity was high, and our spirits were just as high. We had to do lots of ball work and ball skills on the first day and I was messing up completely at times. At one point I screamed out in utter anger because I just could not get my feet to do the correct things. I was so angry with myself because I knew I could do better than what I had done that day. I went home feeling utterly defeated but ready for the next day because there were two days of tryouts. The next day I felt absolutely great and I was doing everything right! I was passing every drill while receiving complements from my coaches. I felt great and as I was walking up the big, blue steps to the locker room, I knew that I had done great at…

It was “crunch time”. I stayed after school every day of the week lifting weights and running hills because I knew that my shot was coming soon. The older I got, the later I would be for dinner because I knew time was running out. I would always go to bed so late because I would be up all night doing my homework. Eventually, sophomore year came, and my hard work paid off. My childhood dream came true - I was on the field in front of hundreds of fans. However, I only played special teams., but I wanted more. Junior year came, and I was finally a starter. Though I started, I knew there was still more room to improve on my abilities and contributions to the team. Now, senior year is here, and I am a captain. I am one of the leaders that everyone else on the team looks up to, which has been my true dream all along. It’s crazy to think that I am now one of those role models for young children that are just like how I was when I was their age, but I’m loving every minute of…

At the beginning of my sophomore year when California football season came around I was not as excited as I was in my previous story. I did not care for it because I was not a senior so I thought why put the effort if I was not apart of it. In reality, I was involved with everything because I was part of a team, a family. In every practice I would not push myself to the fullest or help the team come better…

I stood on the sidelines of my first varsity football game as a sophomore, not quite expecting what happened next. “We need another linebacker!” I heard this knowing I was the next man up, and was forced into a situation I wasn’t quite ready for. I started the rest of the season as our middle linebacker, and I got destroyed. Slow, undersized, and unprepared, I was out of my league. But I was determined not to let my sub-par sophomore year affect the rest of my high-school career as a football player.…

Though I was athletic growing up, I was apprehensive of trying my luck at different sports, much less a unique one like Ultimate Frisbee. Once I started, however, I was hooked. I fell in love with the sportsmanship and the energy of the game. After playing through middle school, I was disappointed to hear that my high school didn’t have an Ultimate team. So, freshman year, I began to charter a team and made great progress until I tore the ACL in my left knee. I continued working on my club until sophomore year when I was accepted to IMSA. I had to start again. After being denied the opportunity to charter my sophomore year, I worked again through the summer. Unfortunately, I was hit with another torn ACL, this time in my right leg. After recovering…

It was the summer of 2013, and I was going to be a senior in high school, and like every other summer for the past 4 years, I spent the majority of my summer training for football. I didn’t hate it or else I would have quit the team and done something else with my life, but at the same time I felt as if we were given no break from football. It felt like it was an all year long sport. To me football didn’t just show me how to run the ball, how to catch a ball, and how to tackle. Football also gave me very many life lessons and experiences that I will never forget. Especially, one experience where I was racially profiled.…
