My Mentor Essay Sample
I constantly thank the Lord for the amazing family he has put me in. My parents have always instilled the “work hard play hard” principle into my sister and I from an early age. We have always been treated with respect from our parents and have been expected it in return. We have always been a close knit family and I tend to think, very unique as well. I grew up in a household with two graduate music majors; my mom, a violinist and vocalist, and my dad, a vocalist and all-around musician with a focus on percussion. Both of my parents are teachers, one in the classroom and both in giving private music lessons. On top of being educators, this year they are first time business owners of a program that expands the creative arts programs in schools. I am one of the few persons my age who enjoys classical music and going to the symphony. My passions in music, however are singing and percussion. I have recently fallen in love with playing the drums, especially the djembe. Music is something I have grown up with, but finding a passion for it had to come all on my own. Playing the drums grants me the ability to express myself in a way that nothing else in this world can. I can put all of my stress, worries, frustrations, joy, thankfulness, and worship into drumming. There is unquestionably nothing like playing in a worship session or just a plain old jam session with a group of friends. When I play, I feel so at peace and at one with the world. With soul and rhythm infused in my blood, I can simply play my heart out and not need to worry about technicalities. My life would be barren without my family or music, not to mention exceedingly boring. They have always been a part of who I am and forever will be. I would be nothing without
