Growing up with one parent is hard, but growing up thinking that they separated because of you is harder. I always thought that my parents separated because of me. I have thought that for the past eleven years that I was the cause and the problem. Though it was hard growing up with my mom; every few years I would be able live with to my dad. He lived in Washington most of my life: Spokane, Wallawall, and Yakima- mostly because of the army. When I was about eight, my sibling and I would travel to visit him every summer and spend no more than two weeks with him. For instance, when I started seventh grade I heard a song called “My Little Girl” by Tim McGraw. At first, when I heard this song I started to cry because I automatically heard my Dad’s voice apologizing for what happened. Most of the lyrics have a way of positively striking you in the feelings. For instance, when you are growing up your parents talk about how cute you were when you were born, my Dad would say that I looked like a bowl of sugar because I was so white, and that is why when Tim McGraw says, “ I thought you looked like an angel wrapped in pink so soft and warm.” These lyrics express that from a young age parents have always loved their child, and that they will always be there for them.
