My Literacy Development Research Paper

To start my family is the most important when it comes to my literacy development. Ever since I can remember, my mom would always read me bedtime stories like Goldilock and the Three Bears, The Three Little Pigs, The Little Gingerbread Man, and until I fell asleep. When I got older she would push me to read books that peaked my interest. One book that comes to mind that is an a-ha moment is a graphic novel called “Bone” by Jeff Smith. I really enjoyed the humorous comics and how they describe everything in great detail. The chase scenes couldn't make me put the book down. It was the first book that I remember reading the most, including the rest of the series. I would get in trouble sometimes because I would use it in many book projects over the years!
The more it went on the more I hated reading altogether! But that all changed when my 12th-grade teacher Mrs. Becker taught me to read books that interest you and will teach you something, “we won't be having any class book, it's up to you.” It was great reading books that made me comfortable to read again. Books that I really had an interest in, that were fun to read. That actually makes doing work on them easy and fun to do.
To me, literacy means reading entertaining things that keep you interested. Writing doesn't come to mind when I think of literacy. It’s not that I dislike writing, during school we wrote about really boring ideas that made me lose interest in it. I also second guess myself so much and want to make things sound more fluid but it just never comes out the way I want it to be.
