My Life In Haiti
I was born and raised in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, to be more specific Cite Soleil and La saline respectively. These two places are probably the most dangerous part of the world, and two of the poorest part of Haiti. From a very young age, I was exposed to events ranging from seeing cadavers in the street almost on a daily basis, drug dealing, authority brutalities to lose a couple of childhood friends due to gang activities. In the midst of my environment disadvantages, my parents were doing a little bit better compared to the rest of our community until I reached the age of 5. One month after my 5th birthday, my life took drastic turn. My mother migrated to the United States (US) and left me in Haiti with my father, who subsequently became a drug addict. My living conditions came from as being ‘doing ok’ to worst. I suffered malnutrition, if it were not for my neighbors I would …show more content…
Reasons joining the Army vary greatly amounts people. My reason is simply I wanted to say show gratitude to the US, and to protect its freedom due the fact that I do not want my daughter to have the same fate of Malala Yousafza on the afternoon of 9th October 2012. The latter was concluding factor in my decision. As for ROTC, being an officer will afford me to the greatest opportunities to make positive impact on others around me. I aforesaid all this to say that I would not change my childhood experience because I am proud of what I become today. Every negative event from childhood, I have internalized them, and turned into something positive because I made a promise to myself that I will not be anything that will prompt my future children to have a similar childhood as mine. In turn, I became mature at a young age, and more grateful everything I have earned or have in my life. I only desire to have a high prestige as an adult. In conclusion, I am because I have a desire to improve on what I was

One reason I would re-enlist is because I’m loyal to my country. Thomas paine said, “But he that stands it now, deserves love and thanks of women and men.” (Doc D) Thomas Paine inspired me to stay and fight for my family and peers because we all deserve to be treated equally, and I want my family and friends to have the best life possible to have all rights necessary. Without me and the army’s help, we would be getting taxed without representation and this would be affecting my family greatly because our money would be taken away for no reason.…

I want to have the distinguished honor of enrolling in the Reserve Officer Training Corps because I wish to do something bigger than myself so that one day when time has pushed forward I can look back and say my single greatest decision in life was to be courageous and join the military through ROTC. Acceptance into the program would not only open a door to a life unlike any other, but it would give that unit another talented, hungry, and driven mind in it’s ranks. There is no other candidate that wants this opportunity more than myself. I realized the opportunity to become an officer in the United States Army, and I pursue it with a purpose everyday. That purpose being to conquer my goals one bridge at a time with precision and accuracy,…

First off, I was born in Gallup, New Mexico in the McKinley County Indian Hospital, in 1976, to a half Zuni/Spanish native, and a Hispanic Apache mother, and growing up I saw and suffered a lot of abuse, and a very unstable youth. My father and mother divorced when I was a baby, and my stepfather was very abusive, to me and my mother for many years, until he was arrested for killing my mother's best friend. After that, I saw the effect that abuse had on my mother, and she became a victim of drug and alcohol addiction, so eventually my little brother, sisters, and I was taking into Child Protective Custody. We were separated at first, and I had a few good foster parents, and a couple really evil ones, but eventually I was placed with a family who allowed us all to be…

Overwhelmed. The only word I can think of when the flight attendant calmly says, “Welcome to Port-au-Prince, Haiti, you may now unfastened your seatbelts.” Tears fell from my eyes and all the emotions that I was feeling for the last 4 hours suddenly began pouring out. I had never been to Haiti and the only mindset of it I had was that there was killing and kidnapping. I was extremely anxious because of that. “NO!, YES!, NO!, YES!, NO!!”, my conflicted mind begins to yell. I couldn't believe that I was actually there. Holding up the line, I got off the plane as slowly as possible. Ironically, being up in the air was much more relieving than being on the grounds IN HAITI !. “Daph, you’ll be alright,” my mom says. “Hopefully,” I mumbled. I thought to myself that maybe just maybe I will actually enjoy it.You will never actually understand the importance of bigger things without appreciating the little things…

First of all, the military has always been very appealing to me. As a young boy, the military has always fascinated me. I grew up watching movies like Saving Private Ryan. I also played various military video games such as Medal of Honor and Call of Duty. I love what the military does and wanted to be a part of the big picture. I enjoy every last bit of the military. I am probably one of the few people who would actually like basic training. It amazes me how the military draws diverse people in from all over the country. The particular branch I would like to join would be the Army. It will always be an option for me to join.…

My feet felt like they were walking on quicksand as I was walking down the hallway to the hatch. My nerves were bouncing off the walls. I have never been out of the country before, let alone with a bunch of strangers. The plane ride felt like it was so short because I didn’t know what my eyes would foresee when I landed. I was heading toward a country with one of the worst devastating earthquakes recorded, Haiti! The opportunity came to me when my church was signing up people for Mission of Hope to take a trip to Haiti on June 2012. They told us a couple of things that we would experience and do while on the trip. Nothing prepared me though for what I would see with my own eyes. Since our flights were running late I didn’t land in Haiti till dark. A bus came to transport my group to our camp site. Even in the dark misty fog you could see there were not many buildings. All you could see was outlines of tents and piles of rubbish. When my group arrived to the camp site we were shown our assigned rooms and instructed to get some sleep because tomorrow was going to be a busy day.…

My motivation/decision to serve in the U.S. military (USN) came from two experiences. First, in 1994 my older brother was graduating from high school and hadn’t really prepared himself for what that meant. A navy recruiter came to our house and spoke about the opportunities that the navy offered. I know I listened more than my brother did. In the end, my brother decided that the military was not for him and went off to junior college in Florida.…

The main reason I am the person today is because of how my parents raised me, the places I have been, and the people I meet. While I was growing up I didn’t have the best life my parents fought and eventually broke up which showed me how hard relationship can be and how easy they are to ruin. Being emotionally sensitive when I was younger taught me how easy it is to hurt someone with words, how strong words can be, and how to ignore what people say. Going to church gave me the feeling that I am never alone. Going to boy scouts gave me a lot of common…
