My Life As A Reader Begins Way Back When I Was 2 Years Old 2
My life as a reader begins way back when I was 2 years old. The first time I ever read was when I was 2 years old. I was sitting in my room watching the clock and I wondered how I tell time, so I called my mom down and I asked her how to tell time. She looked at me with a disappointed look and said, “You still don’t know how to tell time?!” Thus, she taught me how tell time and from that day forward I was always independent when it came to telling time. The 2nd reading milestone of my life was when I was 4 years old. I read the book “Arthur”. After “Arthur” I gained an interest in Dr. Seuss books; especially “Green Eggs and Ham”. I first started reading “A-Z Mysteries” by Ron Roy at the age of 6. At an older age now, I read more challenging books and have more time to read. I enjoy reading when I am stressed out because it calms down my brain. I also enjoy reading before I go to bed because it helps me fall asleep faster. There are different types of genres in the reading world and my favorites are action, sci-fi, and comedy. I have many places in which I enjoy reading, but the most comfortable place to read would be in my bed. I read whenever I have absolutely nothing to do; for example after my homework or while I am waiting for someone or something. In the future I have many goals that I would like achieve as my life as a reader. First of all, I would like to at 45 minutes before I go to bed. Then when I wake up I would like to read another 15 minutes. I would also like to read newer books that recently came out; at least 1-4 months before. Another goal of mine would be to read from different authors and not focus on one author. My final goal is to read more non-fiction books because lately the only non-fiction books I have read are math books and I would like to read things about science or other areas. My life as a reader has so far has been ok so far. I have had some good milestones in reading, but also have had some bad moments in my reading life as

I am not a professional reader, nor am I a professional writer. As a matter of fact, I don’t like writing at all, but then writing is a part of life. I was only 6 years old when I started to take an interest in reading and also started to learn how to read. My grandmother was a greater reader. She would read to me all the time and encourage me to read anything I could get my hands on. I would always see her with a book during her spare time.…

On November 18, 1995 in Santa Monica California, I was born into my loving mother’s arms. My parents soon separated, and I grew up with my mother, stepfather, and little brother. From a very young age I was already beginning to take an interest in the written word. I can remember attempting over and over again to write my “bs” and “ds” the correct way until my small hand grew tired. My love of reading, which began at the age of four, continued all through my childhood and into my teens. I could scarcely be seen without a book in hand. As a child of divorce, my role in the family quickly changed from child to adult. Growing older, life was not all adventures and scavenger hunts anymore. Up until middle school, I excelled…

Reading is my life. It’s my escape from the world around me. I love getting lost in a story about monsters and myths, or a Cinderella gone wrong. If I didn’t draw as much as I did, I’d probably be the anti-social bookworm in the back, like in all those cliche teenage love stories. It’s actually quite surprising to see how many people dislike books, there’s nothing wrong with a little reading every once and awhile. But who am I to judge? I wasn’t a very big reader myself until maybe two years ago. Of course, that leads to the first reason why I enjoy reading so much.…

“A book is a gift you can open again and again,” wrote Garrison Keillor. People read all the time. They read for information, for escape, for entertainment, for instruction, for guidance. They read recipes and tweets and texts. They read newspapers, blogs, and Facebook replies. In a recent survey by Pew Research, the number of people who actually read a book in the past year was 72 percent in 2015. I am one of those. As I consider my reading experiences, I realize they represent the journey I have traveled, leading me to my current academic path.…

Reading is an experience that every individual grows from differently. Whether it be a smooth transition or even a positive one depends entirely on the individual. Gerald Graff, Richard Rodriguez, and Eudora Welty all show their growth through literacy narratives. Each one of their experiences although different all relate to my own journey into literacy. My own transition from Dr. Seuss books, to being thoroughly interested in novels such as Kiss the Girls by James Patterson is a novel all on its own.…

This is the story of when my interest in reading and writing arose. I believe it started around 10th grade in high school. I experienced so many new things. For instance, I was involved in the band. Which I consider helped my creativity. I found a book that truly interested me and actually had me hooked from beginning till end. Some things from this time didn’t always seem to pan out, but that’s something pretty common and we’ll discuss this at a later time in this. There were people who along this time who inspired my writing and introduced new books to me to enjoy thoroughly. At this time, I believe I’ll start by talking about the people who got me on track.…

I used to love reading. In kinder and first, my nose was stuck in a Magic Tree House book. Third, fourth, and fifth grade I basically lived at Hogwarts (in my rightfully sorted house, of course, I am a proud Hufflepuff). And in middle school, I discovered THE tween series of my generation, Maximum Ride. Reading was exciting, and even though I had done it for years every time I picked up a book it felt so novel. I was your ordinary bookworm until seventh grade when the joint power of Ms. Green’s teaching and James Patterson’s writing broke my will to read.…

Although there is much I can’t recall from my early days of reading, there are some momentous flashbacks. When I was beginning elementary school my parents were very eager to introduce me to doing a great deal of reading, they wanted me to enjoy reading for a while and they succeeded. We lived within walking distance of the public library which allowed us to frequently visit the library to read and check out books. I always remembered the vast shelves of books that seemed like they never had an end. In addition to reading at the library we checked books out to bring home to read, this allowed me to read as much as I wanted to. Correspondent to the amount of reading I did, the more I enjoyed it and improved at reading.…

I love to read because of my mother. When I was young I disliked reading and preferred to watch movies instead. To get me to enjoy reading my mother would read stories to me and I would read along with her. One day my mother read only classic books from our houses to San Antonio, Texas. We read Little women, Great Expectations, Treasure Island, Journey to the Center of the Earth, Ten Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, plus more. I remember how her voice made the words on the pages come to life. She would very her tone for each character and made each one unique. It was like watching a one man play. I soon wanted to read the stories by myself because I was always in a rush to know the ending; reading to myself was faster than my mother reading aloud to me. Every time I read I can still…

The newness of reading had worn off by junior high. My leisure reading had decreased significantly due to sports and increase in textbook reading assignments made by our teachers. The textbook reading assignments changed how I felt about reading. When in elementary school, reading was learning, but what we were reading were nothing more than stories made up by a publishing company. There was usually a lesson learned at the end of the story. Textbooks didn’t have that same story like nature. They were full of facts and what seemed like complex analogies and theories. Reading was not fun anymore.…

Over the years, my interest and awareness regarding reading and writing have varied from time to time. I remember my mother reading bedtime stories to me as a child and actually painting my personal pictures to what she was saying. Once I was old enough to read the stories myself, I would go back and compare my mental pictures with those that were in the book. During my elementary days, I found the novice level of reading and writing to still be interesting. Everything from transferring imaginary stories I had thought of onto a sheet of paper to tell the entire class about my church league team winning the basketball championship the previous Saturday, I thoroughly enjoyed writing and felt I had a personal connection to it.…
