Jessie Nelson’s ‘I am Sam’ directed in 2001 tells a story of a mentally-challenged man, Sam Dawson, and his relentless fight with the legal system for custody of his daughter, Lucy Diamond Dawson. Nelson forces the audience to question Sam’s capabilities and limits of being a ‘good parent’ through symbolism, characterization, use of camera and editing techniques.…
Connolly has drawn some heavy-hitters to this project, from Hollywood traveler Sam Worthington in an uncharacteristically recessive lead role to local favorites Deborah Mailman and David Wenham in the supporting ranks and Eric Bana among the executive producers. But it’s the child actors, led by Ed Oxenbould as 12-year-old Dylan, who carry most of the weight. And while their handling of the over-written dialogue in Connolly and Steve Worland’s screenplay is short on naturalistic restraint, their tween peers in the audience will be unlikely to mind.…
The document I am reviewing is “The Broken Spears: The Aztecs Account of the Conquest of Mexico” from chapter 16. This piece was the work of more than one author, which included native priests and wise men who encountered the Spanish and the Indians of Mexico. The authors of this document were educated, religious people. This document was once an account that was passed down orally and later written down and translated. This document was written for future generations of the Aztec people, which included both the rulers and their subjects. The authors of this piece expected the future generations of the Aztec people to read this.…

These two topics, foot binding and plastic surgery, are very similar and different in many different ways. First of all foot binding was only for ladies while plastic surgery is for anyone who makes the choice to get it done. Both of these processes are painful and while foot binding did not have advanced medicine back then, plastic surgery does and it can help ease the pain a little bit for the plastic surgery process. Although foot binding sounds terrible and plastic surgery does not sound so bad, when you get plastic surgery, you may be likely to have strokes, heart attacks, and it may cause brain damage and also death. We think that foot binding is painful when you get it done, but it is also very painful after it is done. It can cause…

The anatomical and biomechanical makeup of the lateral side of the ankles have an innate vulnerability to ligamentous sprain. Inversion and eversion are permitted by two joints, the talocrural and the subtalor joint (Hertel et al, 1999). The lateral malleolus is comparably longer than the medial, which happens to create a fulcrum that inclines the ankle to inversion sprains (Booher & Thibodeau, 1994). The lateral ligament complex of the ankle is made up of the anterior talofibular ligament, posterior talofibular ligament, and the calcaneofibular ligament. When that lateral ligament complex is stretched passed its normal mechanical limit, torn slightly or completely, the inflammatory response will begin (6-24 hours)…
I considered the gravitas of my actions only once before deciding to bandage a part of my body. I had wondered if girl I sit next to in Sociology lecture would believe the stories behind my injury. I had wondered if my friends would notice the injury and try to aid me as I walked around the bustling city. I had wondered if they would be annoyed and the constant reference to my injuries. I began to question myself as I wrapped the bright blue bandage around my knee. Around once, then twice, and fastened it securely on the back of my leg. I had spent an hour trying to figure out which body part I should bandage. The wrists were too obvious, my back to hidden, my left ankle too obscured by my new Adidas superstars. So I settled on my knee. My knee could play a central character in thousands of stories that could have caused injury. I began to picture a tumultuous decent down the cement stairs of 55 E 10th street, a catastrophic encounter with a street sign marking the fire line as a no-park zone, an awry Uber making direct contact with my kneecap in the middle of a rainy overcast afternoon. I push those thought away instead focusing on the Yoko Ono’s words. I must only make up the story when someone…

For as long as can remember I have had problems with my knee. It all started back in middle school, when we were playing basketball in our math class. My teacher at the time, Mr. Siem, would play with us. On this particular day, we were on opposing teams and he was bringing down the ball. When I went to defend him, he never stopped and he ran into me. His knee landed on mine with all of his weight. I knew right away that something was wrong.…
In the United States, foot fractures are a common injury in both children and adults. The fracture may occur in one of the 26 bones that help create the internal structure of the foot. A sports related injury, a sudden impact, stepping wrong on a sidewalk or dropping a heavy object on the foot are just a few of the ways a foot fracture may occur.…
erformance. This performance was held at the Victoria J. Mastrobruno Theater. The performers in the show were all BFA dance majors at Mason Gross School of the Arts and the choreographers included faculty and guest choreographers. The dancers performed unique pieces that captivated the audience and truly illustrated the array of talent. Each piece used a plethora of ideas and created artistic environments to showcase an outcome, to the semester long projects. In addition to the choreographers and dancers creating the overall product, the lighting played a huge role. The lighting in this show help to sculpt the dancers and create designs to produce a bigger picture.…
