My Leadership Philosophy Essay
My philosophy on leadership is that it can be demonstrated in many ways and how we lead depends on the circumstance. Leadership is not always something that we sign up to do, some people are just inclined to follow us based solely on the energy that we put forth. Since I have been working and attending classes here at the College of Business I have seen some growth in myself. I have learned to accept that some people have made me an example to follow and I have accepted that leadership role. At my job in particular, people come to me with questions before they even go to seek management for help. I have learned over the years to be patient and tactful with those you lead because they only approach you so much because they trust you. I have …show more content…
Being a follower taught me that people respect a leader who possesses self-awareness and control over their own emotions. I also learned that it is very important to be tactful when speaking to those who look up to you and to always show respect to everyone. Showing everyone respect regardless of the position they hold or the title you hold goes a long way and leads to high morale and employee empowerment. I used to have a manager who would yell and curse at us when she got upset. I noticed how because of her behavior, people were afraid to come to her with questions and even suggestions for better processes because they were not sure how they would be accepted. As a leader I will never want to make anyone feel small and I will never want to seem unapproachable. Although I have learned a lot about leadership from my work experience, the things I learned here at school allowed me to pinpoint certain things and issues that no one else with formal training had picked up on. ECU taught me that taking care of your employees is one of the most important things that you can do as a leader. Some people are so focused on results and numbers that they forget about the people who are working to make everything

Pope John Paul II constantly reminded his followers that it’s the people that matter more than results. If people know that they are loved than they will follow and results will come, not the other way around. They will follow because of love and respect rather than fear. My approach to leadership, when it is given to me, is to love each person in front of me as much as I possibly can. When I say love, I mean the type of love that Pope John Paul II showed when he forgave the man that tried to kill him. In loving that way, my hope is that others will encounter Christ, be it in checking up on people when I can tell they upset, or affirming them when I notice the good that they do. As John Paul II has shown me through the example of his life, leadership should never be about results, but about people. People that through my guidance may one day become the saints that they are meant to…

I learned that you don’t have to show your authority and that you don’t have to be controlling to be a good leader. To be an effective leader, you have to be able to talk to people and be able to connect to the people you are working with. Letting everyone have a say in whatever decision needs to be made is a great way to get everyone feeling empowered and important. Depending on the type of team you have and the type of people you are working with lets you know what type of leadership style to use. Since our team was very self-motivated and productive, we didn’t have to rely on the leader telling us what to do. He would let the group know what the current situation was and asked how we should go about it. This really helped us to have our own opinions and voice and it worked out well for us.…

To me, leadership is leading by example. My years in high school have shown me that the person who builds people up, and shows kindness is more of a leader than someone who commands and controls people. I strive to be this kind, caring person who others can look up to. As I grow older, I hope that by doing the right things, I can inspire others to do the same.…

Lastly, my philosophy on leadership is simple: lead by example, always help, and never quit. Quitting is out of the question for me. Using excuses instead of giving your best, giving up on something (or someone), or abandoning your responsibilities are things I absolutely do not believe in. Promoting excellence in others starts with promoting it in yourself. I have found from being in…

Taking ENES 317 has exposed me to lot of knowledge such as one leadership/Management skills, personality types, approaches to problems and decision making. In the past, I believed that leadership was a quality that could be learned and taught, but I also thought that leadership would best fit people with some personal trait such as charisma or personality of an extrovert people. With the knowledge gained from this leadership course, I came up with an individual Bill Gates who is successful in leading but an introvert, and he has successfully managed to influence others, who virtually revitalize our personal computers/phones and way of shopping. However, some of the things I knew about leadership before taking ENES317 was that a good leader should be open to new ideas, forgiving to his/her followers, and demonstrate humility. I still believe that without these qualities a leader can only become arrogant in their leadership that their behavior may isolate them from their followers. My focuses on this paper will be to analyze the self-assessments test taken in class and the leadership theories presented in class.…

In my opinion, leadership is more than just someone who can enlist the aid of others to accomplish a specific task. It is a characteristic and a lifestyle of a person. True leadership is not displayed on days we feel like it. It is a constant display of ones actions to accomplish tasks and set an example for others to emulate. A leader is someone who can be turned to in the absence of knowledge or direction and will either have the answer or know where to get the answer.…
