My India
MY EXPERIENCE

The two months I’ve spent in India gave me the opportunity to explore the bounds of a life experience.
I must admit that I went there with an already formed perception after reading a lot of literature about Indian lifestyle, religion, clime and so on. After the first week spent there I stood firm in my perception that I have a lot of things to accumulate and understand about “the clash between civilisations”, the different way of living, the incredible India.
ITEC program gave me the chance to interact with people from all around the world, to exchange information about my country, European culture and geography. Last but not least I have learnt more about Asia in general, India in particular, about mixture of cultures and religions, about tolerance and acceptance of differences. ITEC also meant for me improving my language skills and the ability to talk in public and to present my ideas to a varied audience. The course “Proficiency in spoken English”, held by NIIT Institute, involved a lot of very professional people, kind and polite, willing to share their knowledge and experience and to give us a piece of India.
The outstanding conditions (accommodation, meals, all the logistics) were the premises that made our staying in New Delhi more pleasant and comfortable.
Also, ITEC program allowed me to interact with people with different professional backgrounds, from many fields of public administration or private sector and allowed me to learn more about their countries, jobs, culture. Even more, the different level of English of the participants and the particularity of our accent represented a challenge for us to communicate to each other and to understand and correct our spoken English.
The format of the training offered us a valuable chance to gain additional knowledge about history, culture and political context of India and to appreciate the living conditions of the Indian people. Learning with an English native, specialized in language

United States and India are natural strategic allies as they share the same interests and values. Both countries are engaged with each other through linkages in the field of education, economics and politics. There are strong diasporic linkages as well. India has over a million diasporic presences in United States. Fulbright FLTA programme is a strong step towards strengthening the intellectual and socio-cultural bond between the two countries, helping people learn more about each other’s culture. This co-operation in the educational sector would empower and enhance the mutual understanding of each other’s native language behaviors and skills and will build up camaraderie between the two nations, with this view in mind, I hope to be selected as a Fulbright language teaching assistant at United States for teaching Hindi during the year 2012. The Fulbright grant would provide me with ample opportunity to enrich my experience of knowing the English speaking society and helping them in knowing Hindi language that would help them know India better. With this programme I will also be acquiring an authentic knowledge of the language I like and wish to teach at my homeland.…

I inhaled the new landscape, watching our six hour drive go from Dharamsala’s plush mountain valleys to arid Punjabi farmland, bhangra beats and turban coiffed men on motorbikes. Well-paved roads, an organized city layout and a stunning jewel of a gurudwara (the Golden Temple), we had arrived in the proud city of Sikhism. Was this India too? That warm and romantic feeling towards travel came over me again. India had surprised me with a different face again.…
