There is a lot of pain and struggle in us that we sometimes find hard to deal with. I was a child when I first learned what cancer meant and what it would do to my beautiful, loving and caring grandmother. I was still too young to understand fully, but I knew more or less that she would be leaving us too soon in her time. I saw her struggle with the changes the sickness had done to her body. She was weak and always tired. It hurt me so much to see her in pain and she always tried her very best to not show that she was hurting around us. She would smile and always have words of wisdom. Growing up she was the only person I thought I could tell my secrets to, my grandmother was my best friend. Before she passed I wanted to hold her, be with her and just…

My cousin was only 19 when he got diagnosed with Stomach Cancer. I was only in my second year of high school, but things did not got as bad until my junior year. During that time, all he had was me. Both of his parents worked all the time to be able to pay all the medical bills and surgeries he has had done. I have missed various days in school and have been tardy lots of days because I was always in the hospital or at home with him. Nothing is worse in life than seeing a loved one slowly beginning to die and there is nothing you can do about it, but be there with them every step of the way. Throughout his whole sickness, I used to pray all the time and have so much faith that he will get better, yet he never did. Everyone in my surroundings doubted him and I was his only supporter. My cousin was more than a cousin to me; he was practically a brother to me. One day, I fed him after him throwing up his food for weeks, and he didn’t throw up. He did so well, and he thanked me all the time. That day gave me so much hope that he will get better, but the next day, I was on my way to visit him and as soon as I got there, I see his father outside. Enthusiastically, I asked how was his son doing and he looked at me and told me that he passed away 10 minutes ago. He passed away on January 20th, 2015. It had been the hardest thing I have ever had to deal with in life. After, I didn’t pay no…

During the 1300s, a plague epidemic swept through Europe ruining everything in its path. Not a soul knew this horrible disease was about to turn their world upside down, but when it did there was no turning back. There was no getting back to their normal lives when this disaster hit. To me this is one, if not the most, terrible plague epidemics to hit the European countries. This horrible epidemic was called the Black Death. Researchers have spent decades studying and searching for answers. One answer they came to find was that this exact plague alone was responsible for killing over a third of the population. Europeans all over reacted and responded in so many different ways. Most did not know how to take the fact that their lives will never be the same after this pandemic swept through, and then some considered this a new beginning, a way to start over fresh and change their lives around.…

When we hear about someone who has cancer, we all ask ourselves “Why them? Why did this happen to them?” I asked myself the same question when I found out the truth that changed the rest of my life. I will never forget the day I found out my Grandpa has Cancer. I remember the day thoroughly, my dad and I were in the car driving home. Hours before, my mom and I had gotten in a fight and my dad said to me, “Please try and be nice to your mom. She is going through a rough time, your grandpa has Cancer.” These words would repeat in my mind every day for the rest of my life. My Grandpa has Leukemia, a type of Cancer where you produce too many white cells and you are unable to fight off infections. However, this is not the only time I have heard…

All my life I have searched for outdoor profession involving human remains and settlements that could satisfy my curiosity. Then, I met a person that is so dedicated to such a profession that I had no knowledge about. As to knowing her since I have been under her wing for two years, I could say that she is a very skillful person in the field of archaeology. Her name is Jolie Liston, from Texas, a 7th generation Texan. All her life since age 23, has been doing archaeology because she loved doing outside work. Now age 53 and has achieved her Ph.D. on this type of field (Liston2/7/13,Liston2/12/13). With the 2 years of work and training with her, I finally made a hard decision because I had two choices, be in the military or outdoor profession which I wanted. With all her lectures and teachings about archaeological dig and investigating past histories, my interest grew more and captured me right there. I would say that Jolie is nothing compared to others out there. There are great accomplishments that she accomplished in Palau before she left the island. All based on her discoveries on field were publicized and taught to the people, also helped with preserving some of the very old cultural sites. With the archaeology skill she possesses, I have been inspired to walk the same path and start out by going to higher education to pursue a future field goal.…
