My Hometown Poem
My hometown was a wonderful place to live
But there were many times it didn’t forgive
Some memories I hold so fond,
Others I wish were gone.

My hometown’s history made my heart bleed
The town no longer has what I need
When the war came and took the peace as prisoners we wished to be freed
That's when you know it's time to leave
Because in my hometown I can no longer believe

One day my father told me we must leave town
With dismayed eyes as his tears were drawn
He said we are fish following the ocean,
We have to go north to a freer nation
Where beaver live, mountains, it's a better option

In my hometown I loved how you can walk wherever you want,
No one casts a disapproving scowl or taunt
This place has snowy hills, green valleys running up and down
Still, my hometown deserves a crown

In the poem "Loneliness" by Laura Cortes there seems to exist a small hope and wish for the past. The poem has many lines that seem to show an echo for the similarities of harvesting the apples and the harvest of life itself. Through the course of the poem, the speaker uses the word ghosts to hint at the death of family members. The line "Now he and the trees are tired and old. " (14) Obviously hints to the speaker being of old age.…

When F. Scott Fitzgerald wrote the story “The Great Gatsby”, he never would have thought that it would generate such a debate over whether it is a love story, or a story on the failure of the American dream. Critics on both sides of the debate use specific quotes from the story to argue their points. My stance of the story is that it is a love story. The quote that can be used to argue that it is a love story is this, “Gatsby bought that house so that Daisy would be just across the bay”, (83; ch.4).…
