My Greatest Strengths Of Resilience
One of my greatest strengths is resilience. From a young age, I have learned to remain positive in seemingly hopeless situations. I come from a broken family. My father was abusive and my mother acted as a single parent. Due to the strains of raising two children alone with a meager income, I became the other parent my family needed. I babysat my sister when I was still a child and acted as the emotional support my mom and sister needed. Over the years, I have continued to be their fundamental support and ultimately began placing their needs above my own, as my primary concern was to keep them safe. Through everything, ranging from daily abuses to neighbors alerting the police in extreme cases, I was the rock that my family could lean on even

I feel I have many different strengths. One of which I think stands out the most is that I’m willing to take criticism. When I get scowled by someone, I don’t take it as something negative right away. Instead I will sit down and reflect on the situation before coming to a conclusion. Many people will think the person yelling at them is terrible but I think it’s the opposite. This is because the person actually cares enough about you to point out your weaknesses so that you know and be able to fix them. A weakness of mine…

Resilience is a word that few people know of and even fewer people possess it as a character trait. It means to be able to bounce back from something quickly. It can be developed from a tragic event that happened in one’s life or even a series of events that would break down a normal person. Resilience is a trait possessed by these four people who have definitely encountered and are still living through life changing events. Those four people are Laura Hillenbrand, Louis Zamperini, Russell Phillips, and Fred Garrett.…

No matter the situation someone is facing, resilience is a must have characteristic in order to survive their circumstances, and not let it overtake them. A great amount of resilience is shown by Kayla Montgomery, a long-distance runner with Multiple Sclerosis. Despite her loss of feeling in your legs, Kayla fights back and overcomes her challenge. Kayla said, “I make myself do it, I tell myself, ‘I know you’re tired and you can’t feel anything and it’s hard but you’re going to finish this.’ And then I do” (Crouse). Like Kayla, a survivor is a fighter. No matter their situation, in order to survive they must be resilient and have the ability to overcome even their toughest challenges and situations. When an individual shows resilience, there is no circumstance they cannot…

My strengths are fortitude and sometimes a form of compassion. I am resilient when faced with obstacles and work hard to overcome them. I find myself drawn to people who work the same as I do. To have charisma in writing is a gift, but to know your weaknesses to improve is where one finds their maximum success. Writing comes with countless details that can allow or break ones writer credibility. Individuals may write with as bounteous flaws that are available, but when it comes to witnessing other individual works, they find every error. To grow as a writer, I must credit my abilities, advance on my struggles to grow, and develop a plan towards a better me in writing.…

I have also learned about the ways in which I am resilient as well as how I can improve my resiliency in the Intro to Abuse course. I discovered that my resiliency score is fairly high at 220, meaning that I am “quite a bit” resilient. The category in which I had the highest level of resiliency with a score of 14 out of 15 possible points is the “Opportunities for Meaningful Participation” section. I think I scored especially highly in this section because I have positive family characteristics and strong community resources. As implied by the resiliency note, having good role models, caring and involved teachers, good mentors, stable friendships, parents who provide emotional support and foster self-sufficiency and the expectation…

I have learned from my areas of growth and turned them into strengths.. I try to stay quiet and not talk about dumb things or just keep quiet in general. Also, my impatience has actually helped me learn how to deal with certain people and work certain jobs. Now instead of getting mad and upset from little kids not listening I just learn to take their attention away from whatever they are doing wrong. My strength, of trying to get the job done that is put in front of me, has helped me become better prepared for the real world and what is to come after high school and college. Other strengths which were the inability to say no has helped me do well when working outside of…

    My Strengths As A Writer

I have always had faith in my writing capabilities; however, it wasn’t until I started my first year of college English, that I realized no matter how great of a writer I thought I was, there was always room for improvement! Some of my strengths as a writer include personality, voice, and the ability to add transitions that give character to my writing style. I have many weaknesses in my writing: grammar, spelling, punctuation (which I happen to be working on every time I write), and many other quirks that a brilliant writer would catch. Between paper one and paper two, I have mastered projecting my “voice”, as well as my personality. I like my papers to feel as though I was sitting next to the reader and chatting with them about my story.…

Writing in general is not one of my strong suits. It is difficult to highlight my strengths as I feel most of my writing shows off my weaknesses. However, it is extremely important for me to better my writing skills so I can reach my ultimate goal of earning my bachelor’s degree in business marketing. I have almost failed English class, on more than one occasion, because I could not grasp punctuation and where to put something as simple as a comma.…

I pick a word at the start of every new year and set it as my intention for the year. My intention for 2017 is resilience. This year, I took my intention a step further and rather than relying solely on my own thoughts and beliefs about resilience, I started to interview friends and family about how they see resilience in their own lives. As my understanding continues to take shape, I am reminded of moments of resilience in my own life. My interest in service learning has taken me from studying conflict resolution, social and political transformation and urban studies to the Jesuit Volunteer Corps and the University Ministry office at Detroit Mercy . I believe that my passion for building and nurturing sustaining relationships, strong commitment…

Overcoming adversity helped make mentally tough. Being born in Africa, my grandmother and I went through tough times together and we had no food or money to survive with. We had to save everything we could to buy what we needed to stay alive. Also, we made sure to use all the food we had wisely and keep what we could for the next day in case we didn’t have more. I learned how to tough it out.…
