My Goals In Life In Becoming An Immigration Officer
I would like to attend the University of Guelph-Humber to further engage in my studies to reach my goals in life in becoming an Immigration officer with the Canadian Border Protection Agency or an Ontario Provincial Police officer. I choose the program Justice Studies because at a younger age I always had interest in the law/justice field, as a child I developed early persuasive skills during family disagreements on how to divide boxes of treats equally. Over the past years I have undertook voluntary work with organizations that are involved with Immigration supporting the new comers to our country. This work has given me invaluable real life experience of the Canadian Border Protection Agency as well as a deeper understanding of the reasons

In the past two years the coalition government of the UK has been putting a lot of effort in their immigration policy. The prime minister has even promised to cut the immigration from outside Europe, down to tens of thousands by the end of 2015. For example, foreign students will have a few months after completing their courses to find a licensed sponsor who will pay them at least 20.000 pounds otherwise they have to leave the country.…

In my childhood, I spent several months in a given year in Zaragoza. The day usually started just when the sun rose, with Mami Rosa and me feeding the chickens and I sitting at the kitchen table while Mami Rosa began to make breakfast for us, distinct aromas filled the kitchen of meat, frijoles, tortillas, and herbs. When breakfast was ready, usually my uncle or my aunt and cousin would join us, but other times it was the two of us. While eating our breakfast Mami Rosa told me of the news, she had heard about in town or what gossip was circulating in the village. Mostly I just listen to her voice and laughter that would bring a smile to my face.…

Initially, I had no interest in studying law. However, it was upon reading Harper Lee's eye-opening book, To Kill a Mockingbird, where I became fascinated by the unjustified, racial legal system back then. I empathised with Atticus Finch's non-conformist decisions regarding the racist norms, and i knew I wanted to do something in the future to deliver justice. This fuelled my independent study as I became engrossed in the judicial system. Tom Bingham's book; The Rule of Law helped me as a beginner, to understand how simple principles helped shape law into what it is today. I enjoy learning about criminal law the most, as it does not shy away from dealing with the darker side of life. I find it fascinating hearing the facts and trying to make sense of what actually happened, giving all sides the opportunity to voice their story.…

To me, an American knows about the dream, which dream in particular? The American Dream. A true is not only patriotic, but also educated. An American does not have a particular look, or size, we all come with different skin tones, ages, beliefs, cultures, and mindsets. It may seem confusing with some or a bunch of differences, but we all share a similar dream. To be an immigrant or a third generation citizen a common hope is shared, the hope for a better life. So whether you are just above the poverty line or the richest of them all we are all striving for more, we are all…

Dropped in a foreign land at the tender age of two, I was too young to remember life in my homeland yet too old not to forget the painful, permanent mark of an immigrant. As a first- generation immigrant, I had to learn English and take the helms of steering my own education without the privilege of my parents at home. Growing up, I remember my mother working two jobs and my father working graveyard shifts in to sustain our family. I watched as they struggled to ensure a better life for me. However, long hours and tight financial situations reach a boiling point even for those steadfast. I witnessed the financial struggles of being an immigrant family tear my family apart at the age of fourteen. I watched my father’s health deteriorate as he fights to put food on the table and provide for his two young daughters since I was the age of fifteen.…

As a child, rather than being told fairy tales and fables, my mom told me her story of leaving her family and the only life she knew to venture to America in hopes of creating a better life for herself, her future family, and her family back home. Her goal was to achieve the desperately sought over American dream. However, this was not the American dream she imagined. Upon her arrival she took on multiple blue collar unskilled jobs in order to make ends meet while simultaneously trying to learn English and assimilate into the new culture. Although, it may be common for immigrants to work these jobs for the first few years before finding a better career to attain that remarkably desired American dream; this was not the case. Over twenty years…

My Career goal is to become a paralegal. Unlike, most of the students that are taking these courses to become lawyers or to further their education in law, I am satisfied with just getting my associates in Paralegal. Our jobs are just as important as the attorney who goes to the trial. We are the ones who make the first initial contact with the client until after the attorney-client meets, research and investigate the facts of cases to ensure that all is relevant and the information is considered, prepare the work need for the closing, hearings and trials. All of this is what has attracted me to become a paralegal.…

My American dream is to one day be either a set designer for theatre or to be one for movies or television. Right now, in terms of whether or not I am on the right path to accomplish this, I am just starting on the path in the general direction of where I want to end up, but ultimately I know I can do better. English literature is a great skill to have especially when first starting out. The more experience you have the better, and I am taking the necessary steps to ensure that I have a comfortable spot in the career direction I wish to pursue. I am taking two stagecraft classes and am participating in running crew for the fall play, the musical and Cupids, as I did last year. From here on out I must excel in any English classes I take, and hope that being involved in technical theatre for four years will shed some light on certain techniques as well as the do’s and dont’s of theatre.…

The United States of America is branded as the land of opportunities and a place where anyone can come and make a better life for themselves. Which is why many people choose to immigrate to the U.S. the Center for American Progress reports that “The foreign-born population consisted of 40.7 million people in 2012. Broken down by immigration status, the foreign-born population was composed of 18.6 million naturalized U.S. citizens and 22.1 million noncitizens in 2012. Of the noncitizens, approximately 13.3 million were legal permanent residents, 11.3 million were unauthorized migrants, and 1.9 million were on temporary visas”(2014). There are some people who think that immigrants are bad for this country because they supposedly come and take American peoples jobs and they get help from the government costing tax payers a lot of money. There are people now like the presidential candidate Donald Trump who believe that Immigrants from Mexico are “Bringing drugs, they're bringing crime, they're rapists” (Trump, 2015). Trump is proposing building a real border to keep illegal immigrants out.…
