My First Grade Teacher
Picture a classroom full of interactive activities, decorations, and young minds having fun while working with a partner on the whiteboard. Picture a first grade classroom with a teacher who is greeting her students at the door every single morning. This was my classroom many years ago, which is one of the leading reasons that I chose to pursue an elementary and special education major at Ball State University. My first grade teacher was the most memorable teacher of my educational career. Her love, guidance, and success in making each day fun had a huge impact on my career in education. She made our classroom a safe place and her teaching techniques allowed the students to strive for success. My teacher asked me to assist a student who was …show more content…
When my mom began her career as an aide for a student with autism, I would have never imagined the impact that the student would have on my own life. I learned how to be patient and how to deal with behavior issues. Not only did I learn how to handle specific situations, but I also gained a strong connection with this student. Over the years, this individual became one of my best friends, who I greatly admire. Watching my mom assist the student through elementary school, middle school, and high school truly showed me how great of an impact that teachers can have on a student’s life. This student exceeded all expectations by graduating high school and attending college. My mom helped make her success possible and without my mom’s guidance, the student may not have had the desire to pursue a college degree. Through these experiences, I have found my passion and love within teaching individuals. I want to be that teacher who motivates and pushes their students to be the best that they can be. I want to be that teacher who has an impact on their students’ lives, so much so that they remember their experience after years have …show more content…

As a child I always loved my teachers. They always found a way to make learning fun and exciting. I knew I wanted to work with kids when I got older and help them find learning just as fun and exciting as I did. Everyday I’d come home from school and teach what I’ve learned to my younger siblings using the same methods my teachers used. They began finding learning just as enjoyable as I’d hoped. From then on I was inspired to be part of the life changing team of childcare workers and instill the thoughts that learning is fun in young children today.…

Since I was initially a nursing student when I entered college, I had never considered becoming a teacher. Ever since I can remember, I have always wanted a career where I could serve others, and I always believed that being a nurse would allow me to achieve this goal. Still, I fell in love with the education field the moment I started volunteering and aiding in my aunt's classrooms, which they taught grades TK– 4. I immediately changed my major because it makes me feel extremely fortunate to think that one day I would be able to teach, laugh, and help my kids in the same manner that my aunts do. To begin with, I worked as a student intern, as a tutor for the Advancement Via Individual Determination program for four years.…

In addition to my enthusiasm for investing in young lives, I have done some volunteering as a teaching assistant to get some hands-on classroom experience for formal teaching. My experience at the school allowed me to acquire a number of skills and also help enhance my weaker ones. The key skills and strength that I possess for success include my enthusiasm and dedication to my assigned duties and my ability to support and inspire young people through being a good listener to them and offering appropriate advice. I am also highly skilled in assisting the instructor in supervision of students’ arrival and departure time, performing clerical and record keeping tasks and maintaining discipline of the classroom in the absence of the instructor. One of my greatest strengths is helping maintain a well-disciplined learning environment, with minimal interruptions and maximum productivity. This is achieved by pulling misbehaving students aside, reinforcing positive behaviour, and implementing a reward system.…

As my son was finishing up his PreK program the teachers announced their retirement. I quickly knew this was my opportunity to live out my dream of being a preschool teacher. As part of my CDA requirements I needed to spend time in a classroom so I began volunteering in my daughters PreK class. I enjoyed being encouraged to be creative and playful in daily activities and have a substantial input in the classroom curriculum and schedule. I really liked using games, storytelling, and other activities to help children develop language and vocabulary, improve social skills, and learn basic science and math concepts. The highlights of my days volunteering was when I saw a child’s eyes light up when they learn/try something new. When they suddenly were able to make the letters in their name, or do something they weren’t previously able to do, I got as excited as they did. When the children were lined up waiting to come into class, and then run in and give me a hug, it warmed my…

After volunteering in my children’s classrooms for years, I decided I would go to school to at least become a teacher’s aid. At the time I had met a teacher, Mrs. Zinno I told her my plans of becoming a teachers aid, she suggested that if I was going to go back to school for two years just to be an aid, why not go for another two years and become a teacher. I did alternative certification to become a paraprofessional or a teacher’s aide. When I completed my paraprofessional certification I still felt that it was just not enough. The words of Mrs. Zinno stuck in my head, I knew if I could complete this I could keep going; I set my goals higher. I attended Tarrant County College and received my Associates Degree; then I thought, “why stop here?” So, I continued to work on an Associates in Education.…

Throughout my life I have been confident about one thing, one day I will become an intervention specialist. Each and everyone of us has a purpose and most of us fulfill that purpose through work. By becoming an intervention specialist I will be serving my purpose which is to teach students with disabilities how to live peacefully and not let their disability define them. This is something that is really important to me, I want to help as many students as I can feel accepted and be able to learn in a comfortable environment. For some students, learning, comprehending and applying knowledge does not come as easy as it does for other students. There are many different challenges that children face when it comes to learning and each child deserves…

I observed Mrs. Collier’s first grade class at J.B. Hunt elementary on Thursday September 13, 2015. The classroom had a great climate and was decorated nicely. She had bright posters hanging on the wall as well as many colorful boxes, curtains, and chairs around the room. The desks were set up in one giant “U” with Mrs. Collier sitting in the middle. It was a great set up for the kids because they could easily see her and she could easily see them. The dynamics in the classroom seemed great because she connected well with each student and was interested in what they had to say. The students behavior seemed very respectful towards her and they listened when she asked them to do something. Mrs. Collier’s equity between her and her students was…

I started off working a camp for the disabled called Camp Wonderland. This camp was amazing! Campers of all ages, from little kids to full grown adults, were able to come to camp as long as they wanted. They were around others like them as well as around nondisabled people like myself. The campers got to experience a real, worry free life for a week or longer for those that chose to stay longer. Campers played games, went swimming, boating, hiking, and so much more. I was worried before going to my first day of work. I didn't discriminate against those with disabilities, but I had not really been around anyone with one. I was afraid I would stare or unknowingly do or say something to offend someone, but I was wrong. From day one I got there and worked and played alongside some of the most amazing people I have ever met. One autistic boy took a liking to me, encouraging me to open my heart and help others. From that day on I wanted to be a teacher and touch as many hearts as I could for as long as I could. Through the years I have worked at daycares and schools with kids with autism or down syndrome and to me they are no different than anyone else, except they are willing to fight harder to get what they want. My experiences have always been good ones, so there is no need to change anything in the future, but there is always room to grow and learn, so that is what I tend to do. I intend to be the best teacher I can be and hope to touch the hearts of as many kids as I…
