My First Football Game It Was
My First Football Game It was Thursday at 3:00 pm everyone arrived to the locker room door hyped about the game. Our locker room was locked so everyone was waiting for coach to open the door. We were all getting frustrated over the wait on coach because we were all excited to play our first game of the season. Also for some of us it was our first actual football game. Backyard football comes nowhere close to actual football, in practice we all realized it pretty quick but we also caught on pretty fast too. Overall we were a pretty good team and worked together well. While we were waiting we started to fall apart little from all the frustration that coach seemed like he wasn’t going to arrive. Just when we were all about to walk back to our parents car. Coach arrived rushing through with keys in his hand ready open the door as soon as he could. He was a cheetah down the halls he got to the door in seconds. Once the door was open we bursted in like a cattle of bulls, it sounded like a stamped down the hallway on our way to our lockers! Everyone got ready in seconds because the game was getting ready to start and the other team was outside waiting for us, once everyone was changed we jogged outside in a single file line to make us look organized. Once we got out there it looked like if the other team had half their school on the football team! They had at least 130 players, which is almost triple our team. We started off pretty good and were holding the score at 0-0 but later on in the game our team was getting pretty tired but the opposing team were still energized. They had so many players I didn’t see the same player more than 9 times! So we tried holding them off but there were some plays were they would use their advantage of having the energy to have the half back run through or they would have their receivers run far at a fast pace to catch the ball before we even get close to the receivers. They ended up scoring 1 touch down every quarter but they scored

However, I was in a package against Big Lake and I shut down receiver. The following week in practice while I was working harder than even Coach Herberg came up to me and said “I’m starting you at the corner this week. You had a good game and you deserve it. Good job kid.” We were playing Willmar and I was very nervous. It was my first varsity start. Coaches said that was normal and said for me to relax. I played extremely well and I was very proud of myself. The following three weeks I have started and became more confrontable with playing on Friday night. My focus level was as high as ever and I was improving my talent day by day. Hard work does really pay off. I worked hard and did my job throughout the year and on the field. I listened to my coaches and stayed true to myself and I sure did pay off. I’m playing varsity and had kept the promise I had with myself last…

The October air was brisk, the sun had set, and the moon had risen. The lights and speakers could be seen and heard from miles away. The night had taken over everywhere except inside the Varsity Stadium where time seemed to stand still on friday nights with a thousand or two fans of all ages in attendance. This is Michigan high school football. Every year there is one game that has more fans and more energy, the homecoming game. Playing in this game is like a movie or video game. You have the spotlight on you. As a sophomore in high school, this was my first time playing in a homecoming game. This game changed will have an everlasting effect. On the first drive out of halftime, I tore my MCL on a missed field goal.…

The stadium was filled to full capacity with women, men, and children. I could not spot an empty seat in the place. Many spectators were dressed in colors of black, blue, and gold. However, the overall majority of the crowd was dressed in black and red. After the singing of the National Anthem, the football teams flooded the field in grandiose fashion. The crowd became ecstatic. The fans were cheering so loud that neither my girlfriend nor I could hear each other. The first quarter of the game seemed rather dull and mediocre, however by the second quarter, things had become incredibly intense. At the commencement of the second quarter, I could see athletes perform almost superhuman feats such as running, jumping, and throwing. The athletes appeared to be demigods with helmets and modern day gladiators. One player got hit so hard that he was carted off the field. Nonetheless, the game continued without a skipping a beat. During the second quarter, fans continued to cheer and chant for their teams. As the masses roared, the players responded by playing more aggressively. As the game went on, each team proved to be a force to be reckoned with. Each time one team scored, the other team replied with a score of their own. The back and forth scoring kept the fans on edge and tense. By the end of the second quarter, the game had become tied with only the second half…

We were just going through football practice and it just was the same as every other day. We would practice hard and go through all of the conditioning. We just recently played our first football game against Lovel. That consisted of two quarters, which the Freshman played the first two quarters and the Varsity played the second two quarters. At the end of the game, it was 45 to 17, it was not close at all. That was a good way to start off the Freshman year. We were going to play the Cody Broncs in a couple of weeks, but things changed very fast. One of my favorite quotes is “Sometimes it’s the Journey that teaches you about your destination.” (Drake). That Sunday morning after playing Lovel everything in my world was flipped upside down.…

The last quarter of the game my mind is filled with guilt. Have I choked or was the other team just better? Am I good enough to deserve this spot on the team? We are down nine to nothing with just under a minute left and the other team has the ball. As the attacker comes down the field I get a nod from coach and I know it’s his way of telling me the pride of the team rest on my shoulders. I have one job and one job only do not let this game get into the double digits. Number 21 comes down the ball passing it in his team begins to move the ball around the goal. Seeing the ball moving around to my left side I step up to meet the…

This month is crucial for anyone who wants to get a hint of playing time on Friday nights. Any of the guys who play football will do anything to get on the field, if a coach asks you to play a position they will do it just to get playing time. In my situation, I had two seniors fighting for my spot on the offensive line. I knew that both of them did not want to sit on the sidelines and watch some sophomore play in a spot they could of had. So the month of july I had to play and do almost everything perfect to earn a spot on varsity football. The camp was just wrapping up and I was to be told if I was going to be stay or be brought back down to the sophomore level. It was a super hot Wednesday, I could see the heat beating off the black track. As waves of heat beamed up of the turf /Coach came up to with the sternest look on his…

I was right at the 5 yard line when the girl on the other team tackle me right to the side line we a got up she patted my shoulder pads and said,” nice run dude you were close but i got you,” all of my team ran to me and were cheering so loud the other team got mad but i did not care it was a home game at the huntley high school. I realized that you should never like celebrate too early or you might not get anywhere and you should all have good sportsmanship to any and any one because you never know what will happen to the person that you did not give the respect to might do. Also it really does not matter if you win or lose what matters is that you have fun i say that because the other team were like mad sad and some were even crying because that could be their last game and disappointed in there self you can just see it in there eyes and their actions they they were kicking the turf and tackling each other because they did not make it to the playoffs i ran over there to break it up and i told them it does not matter if you win or lose what matters is that you have fun and they said,” yay that's what it's really about thanks,’’ and i ran back to my team and i broke us…

So we kinda knew we were gonna win, but we didn’t want to jinx it and lose. We had a fantastic game and won 14-1. I had a total 0 plays out in the outfield and that sure was a whole lot of fun. I went 3-4 when I was batting which is ok but I could have gone 4-4, Since I wasn’t seeing the ball out of the pitcher's hand I was late on the ball and was all in all, a bad game. Our season was doing really well and ended really poorly, It ended by us losing 9-1, We were not happy nor were we upset that we lost. but we understood we needed to get better. Whereas High school baseball is gonna be way better cause we don’t play the same teams we play easier teams. Which is nice because we will win much easier and not have any competition. The high school team consistently wins regionals which is cool and they have been to state a couple…

The crowd was roaring and happily jumping from the intersection that just happened against the TCU. Everyone was ecstatic as the students waved their white towels and cheered on our team. I was extremely nervous despite the fact that everyone had told me I was going to make varsity since I had done so well at camp. There were about 23 people trying out for varsity and only 18 could make it and so I had a good chance at making the team but that still did not calm my nerves. Before we went out to the brand new turf field for tryouts I was psyching myself out and was doubting myself in all ways possible. My hands were shaking, I was sweating, all while listening to the calm chatter of everyone else echoing loudly in the locker room. “You can’t make varsity; the others are just too good” I was telling myself. During tryouts the pace was fast, the humidity was high, and our spirits were just as high. We had to do lots of ball work and ball skills on the first day and I was messing up completely at times. At one point I screamed out in utter anger because I just could not get my feet to do the correct things. I was so angry with myself because I knew I could do better than what I had done that day. I went home feeling utterly defeated but ready for the next day because there were two days of tryouts. The next day I felt absolutely great and I was doing everything right! I was passing every drill while receiving complements from my coaches. I felt great and as I was walking up the big, blue steps to the locker room, I knew that I had done great at…

This season wasn't just any season though. We had a new coach, and we were also playing competitive soccer. What was competitive soccer? Well it's a lot different than our normal soccer. Instead of playing the local teams, such as Elkins, Lewis, or Bridgeport, we got to play in huge tournaments and against teams far away from here. The game was also a lot more intense; I remember the first game, against Glenwood's team. It was totally different than anything I have seen, we were getting to play at a college, and against a soon-to-be known rough team. We had started the game, and man these guys were violent. We started to retaliate, and my friend's dad was the center referee. I sure would have hated to be in his shoe, that’s for sure. It didn't even phase me how crazy soccer was this year until one of the Glenwood players spit at our coach's feet, and got tossed from the game. We soon learned to live with this violence, and we even participated in it more than anyone would probably admit to, but after all of the beat downs we had received from the other…

I was so angry I camped out in our locker room the rest of the night refusing to talk to anyone and refusing to accept the fact that I was not focused. I was determined on accepting it was because I had an off day and my coach could not see that everyone has an off day. When the meet was over we gathered to pray and talk about many of the accomplishment of the day and many of the failures, by that time I had a good four hours to calm down and forgive my coach for what he said. In that time span I had a lot of thinking time also, soon I realized maybe he was right maybe my focus has been somewhere else this year and not where it needed to…
