‘My First Day at University’

Every student of college, in his life dreams about his university life. It is the dream of every student to get admission in a university of high esteem. I also thought about the same thing. My first day at University is an important event of my life. To me it is an unforgettable day. During my school or college days, I had a glimpse of university life from my elder cousins. I was most curiously waiting for the day when I would start my university life. I thought that the university life would offer me a free life; here restrictions would be few and threat of teachers would be little. I was eager to make new friends. A new life, a new beginning was waiting for me. Finally, I got admission in one of the best and the first private university of Sylhet, Leading University. I was admitted to the BBA (Bachelor of Business Administration) Section. Therefore, after admission procedure I was called for orientation on ninth of November. My university was located near the court area of Sylhet, close to the banks of Surma river. The view of surroundings was just too beautiful. I entered the university premises with new hopes and aspirations. It was a high-rise building with 9 storeys. It had a good parking facility in its basement. Upon reaching the university premises, a security officer showed us the way to the elevator. With a pinch of nervousness and excitement, I headed towards the elevator. My parents accompanied me. I found the elevator slightly small and the staircase a bit tapered. Many students had come for the orientation alike me. There was a girl with me in the elevator. Later I got to know that her name was Bably and she was in my class. It was very kind of the security officer to escort us to the administrative block that was located on the fourth floor. I first went to reception and collected information about the orientation. The orientation was to take place on the eighth floor. Until now, I had my parents with me but it was time to head alone. The whole batch of Fall 2013 was divided into 2 sections, A and B. I was in section A. I found all the newly admitted students in high spirits. There were 50 students in my class all unfamiliar to me. Orientation started on scheduled time. In the beginning, we were addressed about academic years and some semester related conditions. After that, we were explained in detail about the rules and regulations that were to be strictly followed within the premises of the university. I found that the university was quite strict about discipline. The Head of Business Administration Department gave a wonderful and friendly speech introducing all the lecturers of BBA department. All of them were very welcoming. Each course is taught by specialized and well-educated teachers. He told us to be conscious of our responsibilities as it was the question of our career now. To be very honest it was the first time in my entire life that I enjoyed a speech so much. It was very motivating. At last, we were given flower sticks and sweetmeats as a welcome gift, which I found to be very overwhelming. We were asked to take a tour of the university and collect our routines. There were no lectures on the first day. After the orientation, a very friendly girl named Purba came up to me and introduced herself. All her mates were in the other section so she was alone here. No sooner had we met each other, we became friends. The next person I met was Mona. She was of a reserved personality. Three of us afterwards together went to discover the whole university premises. As I said earlier that it was a high-rise building where the fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth floors were occupied by the university authority. The floors were pretty big but the corridors were small. Each floor had an elevator, a staircase and a fire-exit. The classrooms were vast with good quality desks. Every classroom had a full-size whiteboard, were well lighted and fully air-conditioned. There was a good ventilation system. We started with the eighth floor. There was a library on the eighth floor, which had a range of good quality books. Floor 7 had the administrative office of BBA department, the notice board and the canteen. I was somewhat dissatisfied seeing the canteen as it did not have much space (I had imagined it to be huge like my school’s one). Moreover, the food items offered were expensive and not of good quality. There were separate washrooms for boys and girls. The washrooms were also not up to the mark. In the sixth floor, there was a common room for girls to sit. Indoor games like carom boards and table tennis were available there. Overall (leaving the washroom and canteen) I was happy with the campus. We then noted down the timetable of our class from the notice board. It was a tough job, as students of all semesters had to collect their routine from the notice board too. There were four courses in the first semester. At the end Purba and I exchanged our numbers and left for home. The first day of University went on really
