My Favorite British Writer and His Famous Book 'Treasure Island'
My favorite British writer and his famous book 'Treasure Island'
My favorite famous British writer is Robert Louis Stevenson. Robert Louis Stevenson was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, in 1850. Robert went to Edinburgh University to study law. Later on he decided that he wanted to be a writer, not a lawyer. In his early 20s he became ill with a chest problem. He suffered from this for the rest of his life. He moved from place to place, trying to find a suitable climate. In 1880 Robert married an American woman called Fanny Osbourne in California, USA. In 1890 Robert and his family finally settled on an island called Upolu in Samoa. The Samoan people loved him and called him ‘teller of tales’. Robert Louis Stevenson died of a stroke in 1894. He was buried at the top of a mountain.

My favorite book by Robert Louis Stevenson is “Treasure Island” because the plot is very exciting and the main character Jim Hawkins is a brave strong, kind and clever teenager. One foggy afternoon a one-legged man whose name was Blind Pew, came to the guest house Admiral Benbow and killed the pirate Billy Bones with his curse. The owner of the guest house Mrs. Hawkins and her son Jim took Billy’s bag of gold coins and then they hid under the bridge.

Mr. Dance who was in charge of the customs men captured Blind Pew and then he took Jim Hawkins to Dr. Livesey because Jim wanted to ask Dr. Livesey for his advice. Jim brought a small packet which he took from Billy Bones’ sea chest and showed it to Doctor Livesey and his friend Squire Trelawney. The map, which they found inside the packet, showed a small island and there were some notes about how to find the island and treasure.

Jim and his friends set off for Treasure Island. Accidentally, Jim found out that their cook Long John Silver was a pirate and he wanted to steal the treasure. When the ship arrived at the island, there was a fierce battle in which the pirates lost one man and Captain Smollett’s men lost one man. Jim’s

Treasure Island by Robert Stevenson is an adventure story about a young man, Jim Hawkins, and his journey as he searches for treasure with pirates. Although only a child, Jim Hawkins matures and shows many signs of independency due to his experiences with pirates at sea throughout the novel. The first half of the novel demonstrates Jim’s reliance on the people around him, and what provokes him into maturing; the second half of the novel begins to show his transition to becoming a smart, mature man. The following essay will focus on the transformation Jim Hawkins under goes from being a child, to becoming a young man.…

Set in the days of sails and ships, buried treasure and pirates, Treasure Island is an epic tale of a young boy by the name of Hawkins, and his search for the buried treasure of the notorious Captain Flint. Treasure Island is written by Robert Louis Stevenson (1850 - 94), his other texts include The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde and Kidnapped. I choose to read and review this book because I was familiar with some of Stevenson's other work and I had also watched and enjoyed the children's version of Treasure Island. As a reader, I like reading books in which I have an idea of the plot, as it heightens my enjoyment of the reading experience.…

When one reads the nonfiction work of Robert Louis Stevenson along with the novels and short stories, a more complete portrait emerges of the author than that of the romantic vagabond one usually associates with his best-known fiction. The Stevenson of the nonfiction prose is a writer involved in the issues of his craft, his milieu, and his soul. Moreover, one can see the record of his maturation in critical essays, political tracts, biographies, and letters to family and friends. What Stevenson lacks, especially for the tastes of this age, is specificity and expertise: he has not the depth of such writers as John Ruskin, Walter Pater, or William Morris. But he was a shrewd observer of humankind, and his essays reveal his lively and perspicacious mind. Though he lacked originality, he created a rapport with the reader, who senses his enthusiastic embrace of life and art. If Stevenson at first wrote like one who only skimmed the surface of experience, by the end of his life he was passionately committed to his adopted land of Samoa, to his own history, and to the creation of his fiction.…

Before, Ralph could turn around to tell them, a huge wave crashed on to the beach. The tide was fairly high that particular day. He slowly bent down to examine the figures. He looked up with a blank look on his face and waved the boys over. There, right in front of them was the two dead bodies of Piggy and Simon. The little boy was right about there being a sea monster. The monster gave back the sacrifices to server justice.…
