My Experience As A Writer
Writing has always been one of my strong points in life. I have always been able to communicate easily and get information to my audience. All through high school, I excelled in writing strictly because I took it my work serious and wanted to become a great writer. Even though I made good grades during my high school years I still had apprehensions that held me back from my true potential.
Although, I was predominantly successful throughout high school, I still had many problems with writing. My confidence in my writing is most of the time very shallow. My lack of confidence comes from the fear of making common mistakes that I usually don’t see because of how often I make them. Most of the mistakes I make are grammatical errors. Most of my

Personally, I’ve always felt I was a decent writer in all aspects regarding research and personal narratives. Considering those are subjects that interest me and that I love to read about. I struggle the most when it comes to making my writing hold a deeper or hidden message when the topics I am told to write about don’t interest me. Having to do rhetorical analysis with old literature and having to explain the main idea was my number one struggle in AP language and composition senior year. But other than that I felt, throughout high school, I enjoyed writing and taking a majority of the writing classes my school had to offer, not only because it was required but because it was something that teachers and myself felt I did acceptable work.…

Coming into English 090 was something I was not looking forward too. I assume who wants to repeat a course already taken, even though I board line passed. However, to me a passing score was a passing score. In high school and even in some college English courses never served as my strong point, I would always find myself confused and frustrated. Many of the times I did not understand why I did not get the grade I thought I deserved. Immediately, I notice I was not getting the grades I believed I deserved and I just simply stop trying. Afterward most of my assignment I would write without much thought put into to them, just to get them out of the way. When I write my essay, I never allowed myself to connect with them; until forced to repeat English 090 in a different college.…

My writing was sloppy. The techniques I used to write with in grammar school were bad habits. I often wrote with double spacing, so my papers were only half the length of my peers’. I fancied cursive, which requires more space on the page, shortening my writing further. All the while, I thought my writing was on par with my classmates, and I was…

I have always had struggles and difficulties when it comes to writing. This is due to the fact that English is not my first language, and that I am still learning. I started to learn how to speak, and listen, and mainly write in English when I was in ninth grade. Writing has been the hardest to deal with it, because I have many spelling and mechanical errors and most importantly, how to organize an essay, but this changed when I took English 49 with Professor Lucero. In my first day of class, I was assigned to write an essay about my experience with writing. I was not completely sure on how to start my essay and how to organize it. When I was in High School, I did not write many essays, and the few I did, I have endless help. So, I just my…

The three aspects of my writing I would like to improve are my grammar, the choice of words I use and making sure my writing is concise, clear and to the point. I have never been self-confident with my writing no matter what the situation has been, from formal writing such as academic papers for college to informal writing such as a basic email at work or a message to a friend. These issues have really affected my ability to communicate effectively at work and in college. As a service member in the United States Army, we must respond to many emails and counsel soldiers about performance on a regular basis. Sitting down trying to figure out how or what to write has been the most difficult part. I have also found it very difficult in choosing…

Throughout my life writing has been very difficult. As a kid a speech impediment impaired my ability to learn to read properly. Because I struggled at reading, I also struggled at writing. In elementary school I went to a special class during lunch to learn how to read and write better. In middle school I went to after school help, but my writing skills always seemed to slip behind the level of the students around me.…

In “On Becoming a Writer,” the author, Russell Baker, expressed his interest in writing as a way of thinking about himself and forming an identity. “The only thing that truly interested me was writing, “he states. “It was the only thing for which I seemed to have the smallest talent…” Even though he used to dislike English classes in high school, in his third year, the chance of being a writer knocked on his door. When Mr. Fleagle, the English professor, with an out of date look and behavior, took over the class, he brought on an opportunity to Russell to realize his talent and stay with open eyes for the future.…

For my strengths, I think that I am good with developing ideas for writing and using a wide range of vocabulary. When writing a paper, I am very creative with ideas, characters, and details. I know for a fact that I continue to struggle with writing because I tend to get my point across and also clearly state what I really mean. I can narrow some of my flaws in writing such as not utilizing proper grammar usage, proper punctuation, struggling with a theme or thesis, keeping the language simple, etc. While in High School and a traditional college English course, I didn’t enjoy having to sit through another lecture or complete another assignment. I had a feeling of self-doubt when it came to doing the basics of writing and comprehension, which made my confidence level very low. Since I lacked a lot of confidence, which made me guess at answers to questions, skim over reading assignments, I didn’t speak up to ask questions, and I surely didn’t challenge myself when it came to writing assignments. I felt as a failure as soon as grades started getting posted for writing assignments. Most grades were average, like C’s and D’s, however, I managed to do my…

Communication is one of the most challenging skills for me. When learning this new challenging skill, I am asked to initially overcome fears against the odds, which slowly appear surmountable with the passage of time. For me the ability of communication is like building a tower, then writing skill is a part of the tower and I call it “wall brick”. In order for this tower to stand the bricks must be strong. Though flourished rhetoric in writing can enhance a paper in some aspects, I believe that a logical structure is the key to quality composition. Wring, in any language, was never appreciated by me. Thus I just had some inferior bricks at first. I kept those low-grade materials and tumbledown “tower” for a long time until I transferred to another high school where I met my wonderful teachers. I used to hate writing, but when I entered my new high school the way I write has been totally impacted and was deeply branded.…

At the start of the semester, I considered myself a good writer. I had done well in composition my sophomore year and believed that I didn’t have much more I needed to learn. However, coming into Advanced Composition, I realized quite quickly that my writing was not all I had thought it was. Compared to what Mrs. Witt was expecting, my writing was very juvenile. After the first paper, I was able to see what exactly I needed to work on, such as tying topics back to my thesis and working on writing a clear thesis. As the semester progressed, I started to improve on these things and in turn improve on my writing in general. Now, at the end of the semester I can say that I am a better writer than I was at the beginning. I am in no way an expert at writing but I at least have a better understanding on how to make a paper sound more educated and well written.…

Finding how to improve writing is easy, but how you’ll do it is the challenging part. But first I have to assess myself to find the waterloo in my writing. Some of singers or most people have stage fright, where in writing I’m afraid that people will read my piece and also the feeling of rejection. For when they have, I feel bizarre, frightened of criticisms and dislikes. Because I know for myself, I am still a bakya writer and I still have many flaws and steak to eat before I could produce a remarkable piece to read. For so many years in school and have come the last part of it, still I don’t have what it takes to be called a good writer considering I’m an English major. Ironic isn’t it? Too bad, I’ve only come to…

When authors base their work on personal experience, they make a connection with the reader. This often makes for a better and more knowledgeable/informative story. We are constantly experiencing new things in our daily lives, whether we know it or not. If you are 5 years old or 75 years old, there’s always something new to learn and grow from. When authors base their work on personal experience such as Harper Lee did in “To Kill a Mockingbird," readers make a better connection with the story and its characters. It will sometimes keep the readers interested in the story, and many people find it much more informative because it is coming from the author and not an online source.…
