My Brush with a Celebrity
The day started off as a normal Tuesday in April with the exception that today was the start of DC Cas week. I was anxious and nervous but ready for the DC Cas because I’ve been waiting all year for this big day and now that day had finally came and I was more ready than I could have ever be. My teachers had been preparing me for this day and I wasn’t going to let them down. After waking up I got dressed in my uniform hopping that today would be a good day and not aware of what was yet to come. After getting dressed I proceeded to breakfast where the big news came.

As I walked in the cafeteria for breakfast I noticed that the vibe was very different. I could feel something exciting was about to happen but I couldn’t put my finger on it just yet. As I looked around the cafeteria I noticed some minor changes and adjustments. The cafeteria was cleaner than normal, everyone was smiling from ear to ear, a blue velvet rope was blocking off the main entrance to the cafeteria, the main entrance was blocked and there were backdrops set up. My friends and I began conversing and pondering over what was happening but we couldn’t figure it out. Finally we over heard a conversation from a nearby table and they said “Obama’s coming to SEED today!” I was shocked when I heard this new but I didn’t believe it one bit. I began to wonder in my head “Why would the President of the United States of America be visiting my school?”

After breakfast and after hearing the news of Obama coming to SEED I didn’t know to believe it or not but I knew that wasn’t something I needed to think about minutes before the DC Cas. I went into the DC Cas with all intentions that I could score Advanced and my mind was set that I would be scoring Advanced. Once the testing was over for the day I was so thrilled but just as we were about to transition to lunch my teacher had a special announcement. In that special announcement she announced that the rumors were true and that President Obama will

Today is perhaps one of the most important days of my life. It is the day I take my placement exam that determines which major you will be put into at the higher learning institution. Shakily I finish getting dressed for the day, I am adorned in a pair of navy pants and a grey button up with the number 84 on the cuff. Each year the society gives a number to every child born. I was the 84th child of the year so that is the number I was assigned, many of my other classmates have number ranging from 20 to over 200. I slip out of my room and jog to the end of my hall barely catching the last lift to the 97th floor where the test is administered. Not everyone gets invited to secondary school, for 75% of the world primary is the end, they didn’t pass, and would be taught trade jobs with little opportunity for advancement. Due to this pressure of the test looms over me and the memory of leaving my mother and family take over my mind almost daily.…

On a brisk January morning in 2014, a boy in the eighth grade stepped onto the campus of Fork Union Military Academy (FUMA); and little did he know it, but he was about to embark on an experience that would change his life. Walking through the cracked façade of the pea-green middle school academic building, anxiety and fear raced through his mind. Prior to his transfer to FUMA he attended Fluvanna County Public Schools, and things were going poorly. The report cards sent to his parents showcased his substandard performance. He had a poor work ethic, and worst off, he was indifferent to the whole ordeal; and so, later that year, his parents enrolled him in Fork Union Military Academy. That young boy was me, and as luck would have it, attending…

I remember it all. I can still feel the warm summer wind gliding my sun-kissed cheeks. I didn’t usually have all of my windows down while I drove, especially not on the way to my lackluster burden, otherwise known as my job. Today was an exception, however, summer was quickly approaching its end, and I would be once again bound by the chains of high school. I decided to cherish every little bit that I had left. As I pulled in, I thought to myself, “just another ordinary day of work.” Oh…

This week included much activity with meetings, rain and the storm that never happened. Monday began with a Right on Crime communications meeting. It was interesting to sit through and hear what all was going on throughout the RoC organization. Then I went back to my desk to try and finish out the TPPF communications project I had been working on since Thursday. After lunch, I was informed about another weekly meeting with RoC, the policy call was also informative and I learned about what some of our signatories are doing in their states and areas. Following that Call, I finished out the day by finishing the communications project. Tuesday started out ordinary and I was able to finally begin the reading for the Thinking Economically class. Then it was time…

I had only gotten six hours of sleep. I didn’t want to get up but today is the day that I get to explore Chicago with my friends! Even though I felt exhausted I pushed myself up and got ready. I didn’t know whether to expect it to be warm like the last few days have been or if it would be cold, so I dressed for both. I pulled my sneakers on and collected my little bag full of snacks and essentials for walking around all day. Getting to school I go sit with my friends outside the gym as we anxiously wait for the bell to ring. We came up with our plan of where we wanted to go as we munched on our little breakfast.…

Monday was the first week back into investigations. I talked with Lt. Salter about federal jobs, and the best ways to go about applying for federal jobs. After our talk, I went to buffalo wild wings to eat lunch with detective Turner, and Childes. After lunch, I rode with detective turner to talk to a victim whose house was burglarized. After talking to the victim, detective asked the neighbors if they have seen anything but no one knew or saw anything. We attempted to do more cases, but we did not get any answers from the other victims. I would end the day in the office.…

Have you ever imagined of a room that sent such a good vibe that you thought it was too good to be true? Well, that is how this lunchroom was. When I walked in the first thing I say was the bright lit faces of the john Adams middle school students.Their faces were so astonishing that it but a big smile on my face. The poster filled walls were a bright baby blue with a hint of green. The tables were stunning. The colors were so remarkable that they were almost blinding. The pillars that stood high were covered with flyers of all colors. But the best thing of all was the smell coming from the cafeteria. It smelled like fresh pizza out of the oven. But what they were serving was much better than pizza, it was cheesy bread sticks. As my waiter…

Only 2 tedious hours of school and I could go home and lay in my queen size bed with my body sized pillow because today was just not my day. As i walk into Mr. Schwantes class I see an egg, a cup filled with water, and toilet paper roll. I know right then and there we are doing a really fun activity. Mr. Schwantes was always a fun teacher. He was very helpful as well. I could always count on him to cheer me up. I take a seat and read the board and do what it says. “ Good morning boys and girls!!” Mr. Schwantes says as he walks in the room, “ We will be doing an experiment today. Please move all of your stuff to the back counter when you are done with your blog.” As i stand up to go put my folder and notebook on the back counter I start feeling a little light headed. What was wrong with me? My stomach aches and i'm really dizzy. After standing there for about 20 seconds i feel fine again. I place my items on the back counter and take my seat, I just couldn't get the fact that the big game was tonight and i didn't feel good out of my head. “Are you okay Kierra,” Mr. Schwantes asks, “You look a little…

If I had to choose a famous person to spend a day with it would have to be with, Bruce Lee. He has always been an inspiration to me because he followed his dreams. As a child he played in movies with his father, and was well-known throughout China. While growing up he was being picked on by other kids, he told his mother that he wanted to learn Martial arts to defend himself from kids that would pick on him because he didn't know how to defend himself. It was a crisp, Autumn Saturday evening at my grandparents farm, my entire extended family was packed around a bonfire roasting marshmallows and eating s 'mores. My mother was talking with her brother and sisters, my uncle and aunts, about the A+ Program, my mother mentioned that I had no idea on how I was going to get so many community service hours. My aunt said I could come help tutor her 5th grade class any days that I would like. That was a giant relief to hear because this situation had really been bothering me lately. I was also glad I wouldn 't have to waste 50 hours of my life picking up trash on the side of the highway. Instead, I will be helping kids with their education and growing relationships with them as well. I really enjoy working with children so this was a great opportunity.…
