I. Introduction
What is sound proofing?

* Soundproofing is any means of reducing the sound pressure with respect to a specific sound source and receptor * There are several basic approaches to reducing sound : incresing the distance between source and receiver, using noise barriers to reflect or absorb the energy of the sound waves , using damping structures such as sound baffles, or using active antinoise sound generators.

II. Objectives * To soundproof the room. * Enhance the surround sound. * Cheap and simple Materials to use. * Simple Sound Proofing.

III. The Room
Ace’s Family room located at Merville Village Parañaque.

IV. Floor Plan

V. Room Measurements Wall Height = 10ft Number of windows = 5 windows Dimensions 3 X 2 meters VI. Materials needed. * Sheet Block – a special vinyl designed to act as an effective sound isolation barrier. (Doors/Windows) * Acoustic Foam-Reduces or eliminates echoes and background noises by controlling the reverberation that sound can make by bouncing off the walls (Walls/Ceilling) * Duct ape –Adhesive Tape

Sheet Block – costs 5,640 php per 4X8 Ft

Acoustic Foam – 2 inch , case of 8 13,725 php Duct tape = 3D brand Costs 150 php (Ace Hardware)

Where to buy the Following materials * http://www.soundprooffoam.com/Guide_to_Soundproofing_a_Killer_Home_Theater.html (through shipping) * Wilcon Depot Philippines (the price varies with the brand) (the given brand is Quiet Barrier and Soft Sound Foam resp.)

VII. Application There are two ways that sheet block can be used. It can either be used as a sound barrier for a door or a window.
Using Sheet Block on a door: 1. Measure the dimensions of the door to be covered. 2. Attach the sheet block to the door using silicon. More than one layer of sheet lock can be used, depending on the situation. 3. To further sound proof the door, foam can be attached around the door jams to trap some of the noise.
Using Sheet Block on a window: 1. Measure the dimensions of the windows. 2. Attach the sheet block using silicon to the frame of the window. More than one layer of sheet block may be used, depending on the situation. 3. There is no need for foam on the windows because after attaching the sheet block, the window can no longer be opened.
Acoustic foam can be used on the walls, the floor, and even the ceiling. Wherever it is used, it is pretty much the same when it comes to attaching it to a surface. It can be attached using many methods. For permanent stay, adhesive spray will do. Simply spray the surface and attach the acoustic foam. Most adhesives are good options. When it comes to nails, these should be avoided.
When it comes to duct tape, this can also be used in place of foam when it comes to soundproofing door jams or windows. Duct tape helps to muffle noise, so simple application will do. The number of layers applied depends on how many you think will do.

Walls – these could be classed as load bearing or a none load bearing infill panels. When a wall is load bearing they are deemed structural elements as they carry a structural force down to the foundations. When building a load bearing wall they must be made to withstand great structural force this can be done with denser materials. None load bearing walls are none load bearing as the name suggests so they do not have no structural importance. They are usually walls like stud walls for…

Paper Bag – used when hyperventilating or when having a panic attack. When hyperventilating the person gets rid of too much carbon dioxide from the blood and takes in too much oxygen causing them to find it difficult to breathe. Breathing into a paper bag helps them hypoventilate to the point where they are calmed and can breathe at a normal rate again. This is because you exhale 17% oxygen, 4% carbon dioxide and 89% nitrogen so rebreathing this air will help you inhale more carbon dioxide and helps it to be quickly added back into the bloodstream. This restores the balance of gases in the blood stream which in turn slows breathing rate and gets it back to your steady breathing rate.…

Loft insulation is needed to save heat energy and contain it within the building. It reduces heat because hot air is lighter than cool air therefore hot air rises. Therefore the hot air that rises will stay at the top. Meanwhile the air below begins to gain heat and in turn rises while the hot air above loses heat and falls. This cycle is called convection.…
