Fatma Betul is a student of our university form Turkey. She came to Korea 3 years ago and is majoring economics now. When she was in high school she wanted to study abroad. That was her first aim. But she didn’t choose to go to Europe or US because there are already many international students there and the culture in the US and Europe is very familiar with Turkish culture. So she decided to try to experience a culture that is very different from Turkey. At that time, Korea was getting popular in Turkey due to “Korean wave”. “My father watches Korean dramas and I got to know that there was such country.” she explained. Korea looked quite nice and Korea was also a “brother country” to Turkey. So she decided to study in Korea.
Aspects of Korea from her point of view were very interesting. She lives in an international environment and has friends from all over the world and she can speak Korean, so she seems that having no problem here in Korea. But she has some difficulties.
Her plan after graduation is not fixed. She is in only second year right now, so she cannot sure if she should go to graduate school or start working. There is this dilemma that she doesn’t want to leave Korea but she doesn’t want to stay in Korea either because working in Korea will be so stressful because of some reasons above.
