Hero Plot (Sigurd)

Mundane World:
~Sigurd led a good life with his mom and dad, but his mom dies.
~The king meets a new lady and marries her.
~Giants visit the mother and look for Sigurd, but she lies about his location.
~Last giantess puts spell on Sigurd until she visits him.

Call To Adventure:
~Stepmother tells Sigurd where to meet the giantess to please them.
~After that he has to find a girl and bring her horse home with him.

Crossing Threshold:
~Stepmom gives Sigurd a ball of string and three rings.
~Sigurd uses the ball to find his way to each giantess.

Path Of Trial:
~Sigurd finds the first giantess and pleases her with the stepmom's instructions.
~He wrestles her and overcomes her with the drink she gave him.
~He uses the yarn to find the next giantess.
~He does the same as with the first giantess and pleases her with the next ring.
~He wrestles her and again wins because he consumes more drink.
~Uses yarn to find the last giantess.
~Gibes her the last ring and pleases her.
~Wrestles and wins again because of more drink.
~Defeated, giantess tells Sigurd to go to lake an make friends with a girl.
~They become friends and he takes her fathers horse and sword.
~He runs away while the dad chases him.
~He uses the stick to create obstacles for the dad.
~He kills dad by creating a hail storm.
~Goes home and notices stepmother about to be killed by nine men.

Master Of Two Worlds:
~Sigurd saves stepmother and kills the men.
~Goes back to bring Helga (the girl he befriended) to the castle.
~They live for many, many years a happy family.
The Hero Plot

Mundane World:
~The King becomes sick.
~2 brothers go in search of water of life.
~The youngest realizes the two have been gone for a while and goes to find water himself.

The Call to Adventure:
~Young prince meets dwarf.
~Dwarf tells prince where to go because he was polite and asked for help.

Crossing Threshold:
~Dwarf gives the prince a sword and two breads.

    The novel All the Pretty Horses begins with the death of John Grady’s grandfather, and his mother’s subsequent decision to sell their Texas ranch.
