Mummified Bodies

Opposing many people’s opinions that the pyramids were built just for looks, there is evidence that they were built to preserve the bodies of the dead and held a spiritual as well as a religious meaning to the ancient Egyptians. Pyramids were built so the richer and royal Egyptians could preserve their mummified bodies in them (“Pyramid, Structure”). The monarchs built them to preserve their bodies from human view in large tombs found deep within the pyramids. Mummified bodies would be placed in a large sarcophagus found in the center of the pyramid, most often the largest chamber of the pyramid.
