Muck Fire Analysis
Paul’s development, Lake Windsor Downs, struggles with muck fires, robberies and bugs. After each problem starts to surface, the development owner Mr. Costello tries to come up with a solution. His attempts to solve these issues always end up causing more problems. To start, Lake Windsor Downs suffers from muck fires. “ ‘Right out there. It’s the muck fire.’ ‘It’s the what?’ ‘Muck fire, ma’am. That field probably got hit by lightning last night. Stirred up the muck fire. ‘ ‘Last night? So… how long is this fire going to burn?’ The young man laughed out loud and threw up his hands. ‘It’s been burning for as long as I can remember,’ ” (Bloor 15). The author continues to write on page 16, “ ‘Muck fires don’t go out. They’re burning all the time.’ ” As you can see, the muck fire in Lake Windsor Downs has always been a problem, and since there is a problem, there has to be a solution. In this case, the solution is to create a swamp to try to flood out the fire. “ ‘We said, ‘Why don’t you pour water on …show more content…
On page 158, the author writes, “ ‘For those of you who don’t know, five of the houses that were tented for bugs have been robbed of jewelry, watches, and other valuables.’ ” Not only is jewelry being taken but so are the koi fish. “ ‘The koi appear to be all gone. We’re not sure why, but we think someone may have stolen them,’ ” (Bloor 157). The solution to these robberies is to hire guards and a detective to figure out who is committing the crimes. Although this crime is not solved by the detective, the crime does get figured out by Paul’s mother. “ ‘These items were stolen by Erik Fisher and Arthur Bauer. They have admitted as much. They have had no choice but to admit it. Arthur used the gas mask to enter the tented homes. Then he stole items from those homes while Erik kept watch outside,’ ” (Bloor 280). The case was solved and Erik and Arthur were

The Triangle Fire was a horrible event which caused deaths of workers who were working at the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory. This factory was a sweatshop. A sweatshop was a place where people worked for long hours with low pay, and they worked in very poor conditions. People who worked here were there for the money that they needed. They were immigrants, young women, and children. They may have been doing this to support their family. Poor conditions and a few other things caused many deaths in this fire. Also there was a policy from the government called the laissez faire. This policy said that the government can't interfere with the business operations. This was favored by the business because then they could do whatever they wanted to. The business could have horrible conditions for the workers…

At approximately 1300 on January 31, 2012, there was a call and officers were dispatched to 125 Redbird Lane to investigate a home invasion. Upon arriving on the scene I was met by SGT Johansson to describe the scene as he saw it and the homeowners’ statements. He explained the homeowner, Cindy Pinsk told him she looked out her living room window and saw a gray sedan pull up. She heard the doorbell ring. Since she was not expecting anyone, she did not answer the door. She heard glass breaking and ran out the back door to a neighbor’s house, where she called 9-1-1. She saw broken glass on the carpet in the entry hallway and saw where the door had been pried open with some sort of tool. Pinsk told Johansson her Apple computer, a pair of diamond…

The inspectors and investigators negligence is one of the factors that leads them to form speculations. For example, in the exposition of the case investigator Gitchell decides to interrogate all of the families. When the Byers are called to testify, Ryan ,the brother of one of the victims, recounts the story of what happened that night. In his narration of the events he tells the police that when his family did not find Christopher, they went to search for him and on that evening he went to the woods with his friends to search for his brother, and when he returned home at midnight his father had sent him to bed. Furthermore, the police interviews Mark Byers ,Christopher’s stepfather. In the flame test lab, the flame test was performed to excite the electrons in the samples and observe the color of the flame. The flame emits a color because each element has an exactly defined emission spectrum, which one can use to identify them. For example, NaCl was highlighter yellow, Sr(NO3)2 was sun orange, CuCl2 was turquoise, LiCl was neon red, KCl was solar flare yellow, and BaCl2 was Voldemort green.…

Jack London is a well-renowned author with titles including White Fang and his most famous novel: The Call of the Wild. London gains his reputation with his style of writing which builds interest in the reader while relating what the characters are facing in the story. This style is also seen in his brilliant short story "To Build a Fire." In "To Build a Fire," London helps the reader to relate to the story by introducing themes that humanity must deal with at some point in its life; ignorance, life-or-death decisions, and a realization of or coming to terms with death. The hardest theme for people to grasp is the realization of death.…

Passage one displays a very plain and factual description of Okefenokee Swamp. Rather than attempting to convey a specific mood or feel of the swamp that the author feels, the passage focuses solely on the indisputable facts of the swamp. This objective style reflects the author's purpose. The style of this passage indicates that the purpose of passage one's author is purely to inform the reader. The lack of bias in the passage helps to achieve this purpose by leaving the facts unclouded by feeling or opinion, which…

The purpose of this lab was to see what colors are characteristic of particular metallic ions in a flame test and use their characteristic color to identify other elements. Another purpose is to understand how fireworks work. This experiment will help one understand how a flame test is performed and that every metal has a unique bright line spectra. This means a bright line spectra can be used to identify any element. This information can be used to identify elements in space to tell whether a planet has oxygen on it or not. If one can tell if a planet has oxygen on it based on its bright line spectra, research could be done to tell if people can live on the planet or not. This would be a huge advance in science if it was possible to tell if people can live on other planets by knowing the elements on the other planets. This would solve the problem of the world becoming over-populated and would help prevent the spread of disease.…

A metal is a solid material which is either an element, a compound or an alloy. Metals share some common properties like being typically hard and shiny, and that metals are good electrical and thermal conductors. They are generally malleable, fusible and ductile. In a periodic table of elements, there are six groups of metals and two of them are the most common. It is the Alkali Metals and the Alkaline Earth Metals. Alkali metals comprise the group 1 elements. They are similarly shiny, soft and highly reactive metals. Alkaline earth metals on the other hand, comprise the group 2 elements. They are all shiny and silvery-white on appearance and they are somewhat reactive metals. It is said earlier that a metal can be found in a compound. And in order to detect the presence of metals in a compound, flame test is done. The result of the flame test is based on each element’s characteristic which is emission spectrum. Flame test involves placing a sample of an element or compound in a non-luminous flame and observing the resulting color of the flame. Flame test is fast and easy to perform. All the equipment needed for flame test is present in all chemistry laboratories.…
