MSP, LLC Migration Proposal

MSP, LLC Migration Proposal

MSP, LLC is an industry leading graphics company that needs to upgrade its hardware and software to maintain its edge amongst other companies similar to itself. If MSP wants to continue to attract high-level employees we must provide them with high-level equipment. In order to do that we must upgrade the operating systems that we currently run and the hardware that we will use along with it. MSP currently uses Microsoft Windows XP and Windows 7. To be able to migrate to Windows 8 we must discard part of our current inventory of desktops and laptops. Below is a proposal that will show what Windows 8 and new hardware can present to this company. This plan will provide justification for the new hardware and software, minimize downtime during the upgrade, increase end-user productivity and security, improve connectivity, and lower future administrative support costs. Using new technologies such as Tablets and new operating systems across the corporate infrastructure is unheard of and will showcase MSP's ability to be on the forefront of technology use within the workspace. These changes will continue to help MSP distance itself from its competitors. Throughout the company we have approximately 400 desktop machines and 100 laptops that are being used on a daily basis. 300 of the desktops and 75 of the laptops use Windows XP, older processors and network cards that would be compatible with Windows 8. However, they would not meet the increased bandwidth or multi-processing power that new machines would provide and where this company should be as a industry leading graphics company. The remaining desktops and laptops that utilize Windows 7 will be transitioned to lower level tasks not intended for those needing the processing speed and power of new computers, such as front office employees. To provide our employees the best opportunities to succeed we must increase our bandwidth

A senior network administrator for Wingtip Toys, a medium-sized toy manufacturing company with approximately 100 employees located in Queens, New York. The company is contemplating a migration of its network infrastructure from Windows Server 2003 to Windows Server 2008. I have been asked by the senior administrator to perform an analysis for this possible upgrade. Organizations have different reasons and requirements for upgrading or migrating their software and hardware systems. Microsoft defines and publishes a support lifecycle for each of its products. As a system Administrator I recommend upgrading to a newer product before the support lifecycle has ended. For example, CAs running on Microsoft Windows 2003 Server operating system should be upgraded to Windows Server 2008 to be current on its Certificate Authorities. The choice between whether to upgrade or migrate your environment depends on the features and role services you want to implement and the current and desired network environment that you want to create. Wingtip Toys has made the decision to upgrade their Windows 2003 servers to Windows 2008 enterprise edition to take advantage of its newest features.…
