Mr Webner Case
Mr. Webner,

Thank you for taking the time to reach out to me. In addition to the fact that we loathe losing, there are two reasons why we are the best candidates for this case.

1. We have experience working with prosecuting attorneys in high-profile cases.

Along with assisting First Assistant Montgomery County, Texas District Attorney, Phil Grant, (now the judge in Montgomery County’s 9th District Court), on several cases, we helped San Francisco District Attorney Kamala Harris (now Attorney General for the State of California) to convict Joseph Stevens of double murder with a sentence of life without parole.

San Francisco has an intensely liberal jury pool that is sensitive to mitigating circumstances and includes a high requirement for Beyond Reasonable Doubt. Consequently, murder convictions are

We pioneered the use of real-time social media investigation on prospective jurors.

Our proprietary technology quickly searches several social media sites for postings made by the potential jurors, and identifies those indicating verdict related attitudes that may affect our clients. This information has proven invaluable when used to determine the most effective use of our peremptory strikes.

Our fee structure is as follows:

• $7,500 + expenses for Jury Selection (for each full or partial day)
• $450 per hour + expenses for Witness Preparation and other out-of-court services. These services include Trial Team meetings, Document Review, Trial Development, Supplemental Juror Questionnaire Development, etc.

Mr. Webner, we have built our business by working within a client’s budget parameters, and will do the same for you. Our goal is to win every case, and we use all of the technology and resources available to do so.

Thank you again for your time and consideration. Please do not hesitate to call me if you have any questions.

Thanks,

Norm

In “Six Reasons the Death Penalty is Becoming More Expensive,” Maurice Chammah addresses the growth in the cost of capital punishment within the United States of America and the main factors that contribute to this growth. Chammah predominantly traces the growth to the unpredictability regarding the length and verdict of a trial. Many death penalty cases remain intact for a long time before a decision is finally reached, and sometimes, even once a guilty verdict is reached, a verdict of capital punishment can be reversed. When an appeals court reverses a death sentence the county faces the cost of an entire additional trial and another round of appeals. In a murder and robbery trial in Randall County, San Francisco, it’s estimated that the…

Justice Rose Bird, in the sixty-one capital cases heard by the California Supreme Court while she served as its Chief Justice, never voted to uphold a death sentence. Chief Justice Rose Bird of the California Supreme Court was removed from office in 1986 by California voters because of the extremely high percentage rates of which she handed down rulings in favor of the defendant in cases both reviewed by the court and in criminal cases. Not only was her “soft on crime” stance the cause for her removal from office and a major source of political controversy in the 1980’s, it is still relevant in Los Angeles and California politics and still plays a major role in the perception of elected officials today such as former governor of California and now Attorney General Edmund Jerrold “Jerry” Brown, Jr.. Despite the fact that the appointment of Rose Bird to The Supreme Court Chief Justice was a major accomplishment for women, her actions while in office, which were viewed as “soft on crime”, were the cause of much political grievance and strife to Los Angeles residents in the 1980’s and can still be seen in the broad scope of California politics today, current officials, and court rulings.…

    Media in Court Cases

Pre-Trial Publicity “Due to extensive media coverage, jury selection in a high profile case can be extremely difficult. Jurors will likely have developed some biases about the case based on the media coverage to which they have been exposed”( "Media Influence In Capital Cases", 2011). Under the 6th amendment you have the right to a fair trial by an impartial jury of your peers. That becomes extremely difficult and possibly impossibly when the media open a flood gate of “facts” and opinions before the case has even begun. In some instances they have to relocate to court case to an area where the media coverage of the case has not been so rampant just too find impartial jurors. Which just increase the cost of the court case.…

During jury selection Whites attorney made sure to exclude those who supported gay rights or those he thought were gay and eventually got a jury of working-class Catholic jurors. The prosecution lead by Thomas Norman aimed to convince the jury that this murder had every aspect of first-degree murder, malice, premeditation and deliberation. Various witnesses were called to speak of Whites actuons during that day in City Hall. Rudolph Nothenberg, a deputy to Mayor Moscone, confirmed that the mayor had planned to appoint Dan Horanzey to replace White. Diane Feinstein the new Mayor of San Francisco also testified. She clamed she tried to speak to White but he ran to Milk’s office and she heard shots. The state also called Frank Falzon to the stand, one of two detectives who interviewed White. The prosecution asked if the tape was altered the…

The American jury system, wherein citizens are judged by their peers, is one of the most democratic in the world. Nonetheless our system is far from perfect. There are many dangers in a system in which humans are asked to make decisions that could mean life or death for another person. Bias ranks amongst these dangers for it can affect the way jurors interpret testimonies and facts. Indifference is another factor; it too, can heavily affect a juror’s thinking. Personal feelings and experiences can stand in between a juror and the attainment of truth. The American jury system is intrinsically flawed in that it relies on intrinsically flawed humans to make life or death decisions…

    Jury Stereotypes

In normal cases, jurors are asked to stay away from the media and to avoid anything outside of the information that they are given that could sway their vote. However, as previously stated, in a case with so much public attention, it is nearly impossible to prevent jurors from gaining outside information. Researchers argue that any type of public information given to jurors may be “dangerous” (Kassin, Wrightsman cited in Greene 1990: 440) to said case and could leave a “lasting impression on jurors” (Snyder cited in…

The Juror nicknamed “The messenger service guy” was very loud and obnoxious from the get go. He mentioned in the movie how he was estranged with his own son, which led me to believe the trial hit him on a personal level that blinded his judgment. He is stubborn and set in his ways, he is the hardest to convince that the subject might not be guilty.…
