In the area of Sport and as an educator it is important to be aware of current legislation requirements and also comply with Leicester colleges requirements as a member of staff. These legislations will govern the way I teach my learners. In sport it is important to be aware of The Protection of Children Act. As Stated by Coleman and May-Chahal (2003 p21)

“The Protection of Children Act 1999 came into force in October 2000 and introduced the Protection of Children Act (PoCA) List in which the secretary of state has a duty to record the names of individuals who are considered unsuitable to work with children” In the area of sport a number off courses require work experience and coaching aspects. In Sport coaching is often a fundamental learning experience within Sport. The majority of coaching placements are undertaken within schools and sports clubs which the majority cater for under 16s. This makes it an important function of are job that the learners are CRB checked before they go on any placement where young children or vulnerable adults may be present. This law is in place to protect children and vulnerable adults from possible abuse. It is imperative that as an educator and a representative of Leicester College, that I make sure CRB checks are completed before I let any learner out on placement. This is to abide with current safe guarding legislation. It is also as an educator in Sport, to be aware of the Data Protection Act. This act as stated by Law (2006 p154)

“It is a legal requirement that your employer has to manage that personal information or data according to guiding principles set out under the Data Protection Act, 1998” In Education sensitive date may often be needed for educational purposes and information on the learner. In my role in...
