Hassan Chughtai Mrs. Walsh Language & Literature II A, Period 9 11 June, 2014 WELL SO after Phoebe got off the carousel, she came right up to me and hugged me. That killed me. Kids always go around hugging and being so damn nice to people that it just makes me wanna cry. We then started back home, dripping wet and all, and I felt mighty hungry. Boy was I hungry. I could’ve done anything for some food then. But I didn’t tell Phoebe because I didn’t want to waste anymore of her Christmas dough. She would’ve forced me to eat, if I had just hinted that I was hungry, for chrissake. So anyways, we were walking home, soaking wet from the damn downpour, hungry and all. My red hunting hat didn’t look too spiffy, I’m pretty sure, because it felt flimsy as hell and old Phoebe kept looking at it funny. I wasn’t feeling too bad now, although the thought that my hat was probably done for good didn’t make me feel any better. I wasn’t feeling the goddamn drowning sensation anymore though, but just the grey sky and drizzle and all made me sad. There weren’t too many people out at that time. Well anyways we kept walking on, and I noticed that Phoebe kept sorta glancing at me, almost in a sorry way or something like she did some bad thing. Thing with kids is, if you confront ‘em about something, they’ll go off denying it till the cows come home. And when you don’t, they’ll actually be honest about it and tell you they’re sorry. That kills me. After about a half an hour of just walking on the grey sidewalk, in silence, Phoebe said out of the blue, “I’m gonna buy you a big present for

Musicians and fans of the Norwegian black metal scene took part in over 50 arsons of Christian churches in Norway from June 1992 to 1996.[63] Some of the buildings were hundreds of years old and seen as important historical landmarks. f employee retention is a headache for business, it’s a migraine for the U.S. Navy. Forty percent of the navy’s new recruits will wash out of the service before their four-year tours are up. That’s not just bad for the military’s effectiveness, it’s expensive: it costs taxpayers about $35,000 to recruit one sailor and send him through nine weeks of boot camp. Of those who make it through their first hitch, only 30% sign on for a second term. When I took command of the destroyer USS Benfold in June 1997, the navy’s retention problem, which I had observed all through my 16 years in the service, became mine to endure or to…

“Sorry, sorry for what?” I stood staring confused at the girl with downcast eyes as she played with her hair, “you know, for what happened”. I looked at her like if she had just told me she was a purple cow. I was unsure of what she was talking about, Cynthia and I weren’t very good friends, we barely talked and we each had our own clique, so it was basically impossible for us to have had a fight if all we do is wave hello or talk during group assignments. Plus, I think I would’ve remembered an argument I had with someone. I rolled my eyes and crossed my arms, I tapped my feet in annoyance and asked, “What happened?” she finally looked straight at me, her eyes grew wide, “you don’t know?” I threw my arms in the air, “know what!?” she took both my hands in hers and said with a sigh, “your sister passed away.”…

It is a symbol of freedom. Just something about being on the open road, there is soothing sensation of the engine. The feel of control. All teenagers have the similar dream of being able to get their license and having that feeling of independence. Here in America we are lucky to have the opportunity to get our license, especially the women in this country. In Saudi Arabia they are not so fortunate.…

Boy was I excited when they finally discharged me. It smelled weird in there, I don't like the smell of hospitals. I mean, the stench kinda makes me want to crinkle my nose and throw it away. I guess I still haven't gotten used to it yet. It bothered me so much, having to smell it everyday when I was there. One of my nurses, Lily, came to see me before I left. She told me to take care of myself, and to stop making such a mess whenever I ate soup. She even gave me a kiss on the cheek. I wanted to ask her for her number, so I could see her again someday and hang out. I didn't ask though. I guess that if I ever wanna see her again, she'll still be working there, hopefully. The whole family came by to pick me up, even Dad. Which gave me a bit of a shock. I kept looking at his face, to see if I could figure out what he was thinking. He was focusing on the road though, when he wanted to focus on something, he focused on it like no other. That really reminded me of how stubborn Phoebe could be when she wanted to be. Looks like that's one trait she got from him. During the long ride home, Phoebe kept asking me about my stay in the hospital. D.B. was quite curious too. I told them about the awful smell, and the weird food, and the funny people I saw, and how I kept spilling my soup by accident, and that nurse Lily, and even about that one phony therapist. Phoebe practically almost died out of laughter when I told her…

The Super Store Limited is a holding company that consists of two main divisions, namely, The Store and Home House. The company is the largest discount toiletry, giftware, health, home and beauty products retailer in the Southern Hemisphere. By April 2012, it operated 164 stores throughout Australasia, employed over 3,000 staff and recorded a turnover in excess of threequarters-of-a-billion dollars. The Super Store Limited was first listed on the Sydney Stock Exchange in June 1989. It is 50.01% owned by Super-Store Holdings Limited. Since listing the average compound growth rate for both turnover and pretax profits has exceeded 22% per annum. In spite of the recession, The Super Store Limited experienced four years of consistent growth in revenues, operating profit and number of outlets in operation. This performance has been attributed to the two pronged growth strategy introduced by management in 2002/03. The strategy consists of two parts. Firstly, further developing and focusing the existing outlets. The Store outlets have been dramatically redesigned to provide a friendly and relaxed up-market shopping environment with a 12,000 item range of products while the Home House stores have been designed to offer a more restricted product range of 4,000 items to a lower income market segment. Currently, The Store and Home House have a weekly purchase base of approximately one million and 300,000 customers respectively. Aggressive expansion to take advantage of lower cost retail space available due to the recession is the second component of the strategy. The Store outlets on target to reach the objective of having 100 outlets and 120 Home House outlets operating throughout the state of Victoria by the mid-to-late 2010s. The early stages of this program have seen the number of stores increase from 80 to 130 for The Super Store and from 16 to 73 for Home House. Management and staff The Super Store Limited has articulated the desire to…

In middle school, I met a girl who I became great friends with. We were bestfriends for a long time. I noticed that when she came to school she came in poor clothing. Her shirts were ripped and she wore flip flops often even though it wasn’t summer anymore. When I came over to her house for the first time, it was a small house that was crammed with lots of things. There were only three bedrooms and they were all together the size of what one bedroom with more space and furniture was. When my shoes began to get too small, my mom would pack a bag for me to bring to my friend because her feet were always a size smaller than mine.…
